I have just finished the design on a gripped 60d L Bracket. I know you can buy them, however I made one for my T3 and now feel like doing the same on my 60d. I also have a trip planned in 13 days and not enough money to purchase a bracket. I work in a shop so I will just do this on my down time. I am not sure yet if I will bolt the two parts together or weld it. Either way it will be strong enough.

Thought I would share. I will upload images of the finished product as well.

Very cool. How do you make this on? Are you milling everything yourself or doing it on a CNC?

I will be using our CNC mill to machine this out of 6061 Aluminum.

The plans look great.

I love DIY stuff, and though I have a pretty nice wood working shop, how I wish I could work in a metal shop for a week or so. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

The material just arrived today, I hope to get my CNC guy on it tomorrow. I need to have it finished by the end of next week for my trip. I would however like it to be done by this weekend so I have time to tweek anything if need be.

I was able to get most of the base part milled today. I will be test fitting on my Mefoto clamp this evening along with the camera. If all fits correctly I will start on the second part tomorrow

ARRRGG.. I am so jealous!

Looks like it is taking shape.. Just curious.. how long does it take the machine to cut this part out from the stock?

This part was cut out of 1.5" wide stock which happens to be the width of the arca plate I modeled. So to cut out the middle areas and cut the grooves in was about 45min and thats with bringing the dxf file in and writing the program.

The second part will take a bit longer since it will require cutting on the inside and outside.

I tested this part on my head and it holds super strong and looks great.

This is awesome. How much did this cost you? Assuming the labor is $beer?

It has cost me very little, the Aluminum was only $10-$15 dollars, I had to pick up a new tap that was like $3. I use Solidworks so the design was free for me. And I can run the CNC machines so that part was also free (one of the shop guys is going to do the second part, if I buy him lunch so another $5). So all in less then $25.

If I get around to making a version 2.0 there are a few things I will change but there more of an extras type deal, nothing that would change performance.

Was just having that talk today with my CNC guy. Its made for the 60D and I took measurements off my aftermarket grip. It also does not have lines etched in for centering the sensor. So its missing some of the fancy aspects of the more expensive versions. But I guess if anyone is interested just shoot me a pm. I would be happy to design other versions its fairly straight forward I just dont have access to other camera models.

I was able to get the machining done on the second part today. Now I just need to drill and tap two holes and turn down a 1/4-20 bolt head and it will be set. I should have it finished today and testing this evening.

I was able to get out a bit on Frday evening and test the bracket out. There are only a couple things I would change on the next version but nothing to major. I have picked up a couple button head screws to replace the hex head bolts.
