That's a nice piece of work there, a lot better than some of the rubbish available online!

Iv'e been considering a L bracket for my 60D and 5D iii, but i guess i would need to change my tripod head.

I built one for my T3 when I had a cheap tripod which had a proprietary clamp system. I just picked up an extra plate and made a bracket with 1/4 threads to accept the clamp.

Littlejon,

It's too late for this plate, but it will help a great deal if you have your guy machine a lip under the camera to keep it from twisting/turning. The amount of torque on the screw(1/4-20) is reduced drastically with the lip.

Yup that was an oversight on this one that kind of bit me in the but, I ended up putting a thin layer of non slip drawer liner between the camera and plate to keep it from twisting. I have a road trip in August I will be building another base for that trip and if all works well it will also go to Hawaii with me in October.

Sweet are you gonna make it black to match the camera, cerakote would be a cool way to do it. Isn't it nice to be able to do things like this.

I had not plans to change the color of it. I actually need to remake it, there are a few things I want to change before my next big landscape trip.

Looks really good. Judging from the chips, it looks like a little bit of a softer aluminum.

It looks a bit bulky, and the softer aluminum would make me question the durability in the event of a fall.

for a first version, I think its great.

6061 is the most common alloy for structural items like this. Very good choice, not a soft aluminum. Often referred to as aircraft or military grade. Making it 1 piece vs bolting together would be better, but takes a large chunk to do so.
