I like your "lifestyle" shot Jay.. Nice to capture the things as they happen. Great quality on this image too. :)

Jeremy, clouds are fun to shoot. I hope to get some in the next week or so... If the monsoon brings it here on a day that I can get out. :)

Jake, I'll be off to check your thread in the morning.. I'm sleeeeepppyy.... :)

My latest addition to the pot is here.. https://photography-on-the.net …php?p=5807614#post5807614 How can a mother resist a willing child... :)

Nightey-Night....

jeremy, great shot! I saw the same mushroom like cloud but I had noticed that it seemed to have formed from the fire happening out at south mountain. kinda weird. I was way out in surprise when I saw that cloud...was heading to some country bar so I didn't bring a camera with me for those just in case times...:-(

Jake,
what did you use to light the bullets? I would think a mini-mag lite (maybe with a straw mini grid - basically black coffee stir straws see strobists) would give you the directional light down the barrel, then work out the lighting for the muzzles.

I used my 580 on camera, the sigma 70-300 has a .95m min focusing distance so I was far enough away for the flash to get down the barrels. Will using a flashlight (my mini mag has LED bulbs) throw the color off because of the difference in color temp between the LEDs and the flash? I thought I read somewhere that even using different powered strobes could throw it off?

Rutha. yes, I believe using different powered lights will throw off temp, as well as just different lights. you're going from that little flashtube to a flashlight. the bulbs are all different so you might have conflicting light temps...unless you convert to b/w :-D

btw guys, I totally forgot to mention this. I'm almost certain you should be able to bring your camera along and shoot as well. It's my friends fashion show that's going on. It's going on today. Jake,
using a very narrow beam, probably a snoot or the straw grid on the mag light, to direct the light from the mag light down the barrel (only illuminate the bullet) might work and probably wouldn't affect the color balance of the strobe illuminating the muzzle. Just a guess.
Just trying to come up with a way to get more light down the barrel. Worst case there's always Photoshop to correct the color temp on the muzzle and mask the bullets.

Jake,

You migh try using one of those little laser pointers, or a small LED light.

Tested out my new sigma 10-20 the other night with my friend's xB. I mostly do car pics, so I thought this lens would be a nice start :)

Nice xB.

I was thinking of the Canon 10-22mm for just those type of shots.

Have you tried any of the local Friday night or Saturday night car gatherings? I go to 91 Ave. & Northern Ave. N/W/ corner near Kohls on Friday & 83 Ave. N/of Beardsley in the Safeway parking lot on Saturday.

LOTS of great cars new, not-so-new, old, older and REALLY old cars... AND people...:)

I hang with the newer LX cars, (Chrysler 300's, Dodge Chargers and Dodge Magnums), near the Chase bank parking lot.

I have a red Magnum. Stop by and say hello.

If anyone is interested... it will be a lot cooler (temp wise) up here. :) Our fireworks are nothing compared to the stuff down there I'm sure... but it's still nice.

What time does the gathering usually happen? I only knew of the pavillions in like scottsdale/tempe area there...I will definitely need to check this one out...which I'm sure I'm missing at the moment. but there's next weekend.

I've gone to the bike gatherings at the Pavillions a few times. Depending on the time you get there, and the weather, it can be a lot of fun.

Hey Ryan.. how was the bridal show? I kept reading about it in the paper, and wondered what it was going to be like...

it was okay. very minute compared to the others that are held at like the phx convention center. but it was nice. the fashion show was interesting. I got to set up a light and shoot some of the models after they used up the area for the runway. but yeah, it was nice to visit. I went after noon and it didn't seem that busy. i would think more in the morning when it first opened they had quite a few people. I didn't see much of the exhibits. just around the staging for the fashion show.

I will work on the photos as soon as I finish the wedding photos that I took tonight as well. sooo, next weekend? :-P

That's a pretty cute dog, Kristy. I got attacked by one of those once (I think it was mostly pit though). Apparently, when you glare at them... they don't like that, so the bite you in the butt.... lol
