OK, here's my unedited lightning shots done with my boss' barely used 24-70 lens. This is from tonihght.

S.C.

nice of you to be there to help him out with his 24-70 :-)

i like the lightning shots. nice job. I always think any shot with some lighting are great shots. I still haven't gotten any lighting shots. it hit my home a little quicker than i thought cause it pretty much started up when I finally got home. plus, too scary to go out and shoot when the lighting was going on really close to my house. :-/

To all with those really fine lightning shots from Thursday: What was your exposure time and aperature?

I was getting hammered with lightning at work (northwest side), then when I got home, it pretty much died off (per usual). I was using 1 and 2.5 second exposures with two cameras. Got nothing to write home about. Lightning gone. BTW the same thing again tonight, Friday.

THX for whatever info you have!

i find the longer exposure helps, with shorter exposures i always miss too.

I just stop the lens way down, focus all the way out, put the camera on the bulb setting, lock up the mirror, open the shutter with my remote and wait. Both my pics have exposure times over one minute.

Nice shots! apparently I was just a little too out of it as I went the wrong direction with my ISO and UNHAPPY with most of my shots from last night as most are blown out.... guess the lack of sleep from Thursday's storm caught up with me...

Most were blown out like this:

But managed to get a couple decent ones:

Nice storm shots everyone. I took a shot of one of my favorite photographers today. Could I get some comments and feedback on my edit please. I would really appreciate it. Thanks, John

The clouds were like that. I just brought up the blue levels with a Tiffen digital filter and then brought up the shadows in the greenery. It looks a little grainy to me but thats from resize for the web. John

Here's my attempt at the lightning from last night. Unfortunately it was raining so i couldn't go out in the open so I went in the garage. The wind was changing directions so often I had to be in pretty far. I was able to snag this one as the storm was moving farther west.
I LOVE taking pictures of lightning and was disappointed that we didn't see in any bolts in the west valley on Thursday. Guess we lucked out last night. I only wish I could have gotten more.

IMAGE: http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m166/hgsfrmme2u/IMG_4079.jpg

The compostion is horrible but the lightning wouldn't pose for me :p
If anyone is interested I used manual with a remote. F22 ISO 200 for 17 seconds.
I'm not sure if I should brighten everything up (I shot in RAW) or leave it dark. I kind like it dark.

I would have tried for more sky and less ground. It was a beautiful day by Arizona standards for clouds/sky.

That's a cool little memorial park. I'v stopped there myself more than once just to walk around and ponder Mr. Goldwater.

nice shots. I wanna try that lens next :-) but yeah, at least the ice can kind of act like a reflector and get some light on the faces unlike football...so dark when they run towards the endzone. oh and that glass is nothing compared to shooting at jay lively in flagstaff. those boards are probably the original ones that they've had since they opened the place :-P
