Here's my attempt at the lightning from last night. Unfortunately it was raining so i couldn't go out in the open so I went in the garage. The wind was changing directions so often I had to be in pretty far. I was able to snag this one as the storm was moving farther west.
I LOVE taking pictures of lightning and was disappointed that we didn't see in any bolts in the west valley on Thursday. Guess we lucked out last night. I only wish I could have gotten more.

The compostion is horrible but the lightning wouldn't pose for me :p
If anyone is interested I used manual with a remote. F22 ISO 200 for 17 seconds.
I'm not sure if I should brighten everything up (I shot in RAW) or leave it dark. I kind like it dark.

nice lightning capture. I tried to do the same thing from my garage but the lighting was actually coming from the opposite direction so I basically missed everything but the huge bright light

nice shots. I wanna try that lens next :-) but yeah, at least the ice can kind of act like a reflector and get some light on the faces unlike football...so dark when they run towards the endzone. oh and that glass is nothing compared to shooting at jay lively in flagstaff. those boards are probably the original ones that they've had since they opened the place :-P

oh i know, that rink is ridiculous, ive played there a few times, however you can get above the glass... but even the best lit hockey rinks are pretty bad (pro rinks are great tho). these shots were shot above the glass, but i can only do that on one rink, when they play on the other rink i cant its hard

i kinda miss the versatility of my 70-200 tho, i feel like i miss shots because of it, but then i look at the shots i got and i love it

yeah, I do usually get above the glass...but only as far as being 5'8 can get me when I'm in that penalty box :-/ wish I didn't stop growing in 8th grade...

Just did a shoot of a buddy's bike. Spent about 3 hours out there, and got a ton of great shots. Here is the first one, with a 5 minute edit (Yes, Hatch, it's the 85L :) )

I'm much better behind the camera than in front of it. ;)

Thanks for the compliments.

Definately. On the other hand, I really should have learned how to use lightroom earlier.

You have to crawl before you can walk .. walk before you can run!

Decided to try and play with three lights tonite (this is just with 3 Speedlights and the ST-E2 .. the Elinchroms won't be here 'till Tuesday) Only light modifiers were Stofens on all three flash heads. 5D + 100mm f/2.8 Macro

Used the Light Table I got from Terry a while back
-580EXII - Slave A
-580EX - Slave B
-430EX - Slave C (M @ 1/2 Power for all three)

@ The Storm Chasers: Nice work by all. You've got more guts than I have to go playing with Mother Nature

@ Drew: Hockey? Love It! Very nice effort considering the limitations of the rink.

@ Brian: Wow. Nice work. A little something funky around the saguaro in your last one but overall, great stuff. The Boot POV is "killa"

@ John69: Nice portrait of our former Senator. May be a "my monitor" thing but I'm not seeing a lot of detail in the clouds. They look pretty blown. Heck of a blue sky though, that's for sure...

I know, I saw that too. Something with the vibrance or other setting in lightroom. It reading something funky off the bokeh. Looks like I'm going to have to blend two versions into a single image.

Nice work, yourself.
