A tasty good home cooked meal is a challenge for the later generations. OTOH for those that don't have the kitchen skills and desire, eating out may be much better though more costly alternative. Among our circle, the wives do not have the desire to prepare meals. Cold cereal and such for breakfast, deli meat sandwiches for lunch and a frozen dinner comprises the daily routine. Some rare occasions a bit more may go into the preparation though not much.

The wife has food allergies so unfortunately and fortunately she prepares meals from scratch. I can do some but that is her kitchen so my being in there makes her nervous from the potential mess. (She overflows the sauce pot more than I have. ;)) She was capable before though with food allergies, she's learned far more. I joke with her that she is a last century gal from the 1900's.

Her egg twist bread project:

Cooking experiment, home made grilled pizza. It worked much better than anticipated. Basil, mushrooms, and onions were all garden grown.

And a more traditional oven baked one. We are still working on our crust recipe. It's good and crusty but the flavor profile needs tweaking. Way better than take out pizza and we have finally gotten a decent crust ever since we got a large, 1" thick pizza stone from these (external link) guys..

I can't imagine that looked any better in person. I wanted to reach in and grab a bite!

Yea, having moved from the Chicago area to Dallas the one thing we really miss is good pizza. I mean any pizza is edible, even Little Cesears, but Texan's don't really know how to make a really good pizza so we have taken to making it ourselves.

If you should ever care to go on a "Worst Pizza" challenge, there are several places around here (Houston area)!
However, having said that, we have some fantastic Tex-Mex restaurants I would surely miss if I had to move to Chicago.

Oh yes, Chicago does not even come close when it comes to Tex-Mex, or BBQ, or any restaurant dealing in lots of meat. :) Of course, I do meat as well. :) Top steak is a Cowboy Ribeye from our butcher and the bottom is the run if the mill Sam's Club ribeye.

Unless I am mistaken Chicago has couple of places by Rick Bayless. More authentic Mexican food though. I personally love his cooking. Here is at my work place doing a cooking demonstration.

I agree. 50 years ago they didn't know how to make pizza in Naples. Buddy's on Conant in Detroit ruled!

J.J,

Your steak image may also be enjoyed by additional folks if it is added to a thread that Renata started for "Raw food, spices, condiments, gadgets and odds from your kitchen etc.":
