LOL thanks guys. Confusing or not, feel free to let the suggestions keep on rolling. I'll try to decipher them the best I can. I'm sure being over-informed will suit me better than being un-informed. Your comments are greatly appreciated!

SF local.

Just don't be dumb, don't leave stuff unattended. Avoid the 'loin at night. But you'll be able to figure it out just based on feel.

Agreed! I've never really felt in danger of carrying my camera gear around the city. Just be smart and aware of your stuff + surroundings.

Thanks for all the tips guys! I ended up bringing a 17-40L, 24-70L and a 85mm 1.8 on my trip. I definitely could've gotten away with just the 17-40 and 24-70 (as a matter of fact, probably just the 24-70).

I visited the Palace of Fine Arts, Alcatraz, Coit Tower, Fisherman's Wharf, Chinatown, Lombard Street, and got amazing views of just about everything from atop Powell Street. I ventured out mostly during the day time, and felt safe everywhere I went. I didn't plan my visits around the best time for photographs, so they were mostly unspectacular (high noon, flat shots). It was nonetheless an amazing experience for me and my girlfriend, and the pictures taken are ones we'll cherish for a long time coming. I thought I'd come back and share a couple that turned out OK.

Thanks again for the advice guys! They were very helpful.
