Is adding a 50L to my Sigma 35/1.4 and 85L worth it?

Just a quick question. My friend is in need of money and looking to get rid of his sharp 50L for $750 but im troubled on whether or not I could actually use it with my current prime set up. Do you all think its worth it to pick up? Moneys not an issue just wasn't sure if it made sense to get it.

For starters, that is an amazing price. (Assuming its in good condition.)

As for the focal length, that is such a personal decision based on your style. The 35 and 85 primes do seem to cover things pretty well. This may not apply to you, but I have quite literally only used my 50L twice in the last two years. I always find myself grabbing my 35L or my 85L. My 50L is tack sharp, but I just don't seem to gravitate towards that focal length for some reason. But again, your mileage may vary.

Hell for that price I'd pick it up, try it, keep it of I like it, sell for a profit if I didn't.

Haha yeah but I'd feel terrible reselling it even though he knew he could sell it for more, he just needed the quick money :\

Just don't know it makes sense in my kit at all.

So ask him if you can try it for a day. If you like the focal length, then get it.

I shoot with a guy who uses a 24L and a 50L as his primary wedding lenses. He loves them. I'm more fond of the 35mm and 85mm looks.

It's all preference.

Not strictly needed, but nice to have. The FL difference is big enough from your 35 and 85.

If you eventually resell it for more, split the difference with your friend ;-)a

This!

I'd buy it (especially for that price), knowing I'd prefer my 85L (If I had one - you do). I would tell my friend this. Letting him know I may part with it in the future if it doesn't meet my needs, but I would give it a go for a reasonable time.

Thanks for Reading & Good Luck - Jim

Buy from him, keep it for a long while and see how much you end up using it. If not needed, sell it, but give your friend first refusal and time to come up with funds to buy it back for the same price.
