Fantastic series of interesting and beautiful buildings.

About time I post something into this long thread other than comments. We stayed in this old "painted lady" house for a night on a trip from Chicago to Boise a number of years ago. Converted into a B&B. Rawlins, Wyoming.

EDIT: Buggers! I just looked this place up (The Ferris Mansion) and found out that it is now permanently closed up. Were hoping to stay there again some day. Well, I guess we should be glad we got there when we did.

Your shot tells a great story of how well kept the owners did on the property.

Too bad they closed the home.

It was the most beautiful B&B we've stayed at, outside and in, and oddly in a town that is very much run down itself. For all I know, COVID-19 did their business in. But I've noticed that many of the 30ish B&B's we've stayed at over the years have been closed at some time after we've patronized them. I'm going to guess the average age of the operators being retired and in their 60's and sometimes in their 70's is the reason. Too old or too tired of running a business?

The rooms on the inside also immaculate! WOW!!

Detroit seems to provide no end of such places.
Springfield, Ohio has a few similar sections.
It's sad, when you think of what the areas were once like.

It's a midwest thing, and it's not going away. In fact, there's more en route.
