I can finally cross this one off my photography bucket list, although I'm not done with trying to improve. These were shot with a 7D and 100-400L, and are extremely cropped. I'm very happy with the results. I also shot video using an sx50. I haven't loaded the video yet, but will post it later. Thanks for looking! (edit: The video is now linked at the bottom of this post).

Details:
Date/Time: 1/30/15, 9:15:32pm
Location: Cartersville, GA
Moon Altitude: 72 degrees
Length of Transit: 0.51 seconds

Thanks! I'll try to post it to this thread tomorrow. I loaded to my computer, but I have to learn how to edit it. I missed about half the transit (didn't have the whole Moon in the frame) but it is still cool to see it flash by.

That is cool! I love it! Very impressive.

Excellent capture! Congrats. I've managed to capture it only once.

How does one even know the timing for this? Then how do you know your timing piece in the field, iphone, watch, or nuclear decay clock is not off a second or two? Anyhow very impressive.

I use a website (calsky.com) to predict the transit. It gives you a "centerline" of the transit, which is literally a line on google maps that shows you where to be. It also predicts the exact time of the crossing. In this case it was 21h15m32.4s. Knowing my buffer fills in about 3 seconds, I begin shooting about 1.5 seconds before the prediction.

I've been using a plain timex digital watch, that I set before going out into the field. I'm sure there are several sites, but I use the Heavens-Above website for this.

I'm sure there are better options for the timing. I tried to use an atomic clock app on my phone, but it was actually off the heavens-above link by a couple of seconds.
