Okay, so it's a boring ham and cheese sandwich but to me it is much more. Interestingly, I find that sandwiches make an excellent target for evaluating a light source, which is what I am up to here with this photograph. Lots of nooks and crannies as well as a smorgasbord (should I have said cornucopia) of textures.

As for the light source - I was at Sam's Wholesale Club this afternoon picking up some things and I noticed this lighting product. It is called a HappyLight and is from Verilux. Basically it is a small natural spectrum light that is marketed to mimic day light and help folks who suffer from SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) aka winter blues. How effective it might be I don't know ... I picked it up because I thought it might be a nifty little lighting accessory to help with my food photography this time of year when daylight is short and usually overcast. I figured that for $25.00 bucks it was worth the try. Hope some of you find this useful ... I feel okay about it with this first test and look forward to more delicious trials ahead

Not boring, it came out looking very good. Where did you place the light, and was real daylight also used?

Thanks OhLook ... the light was about 45 degrees camera left of the sandwich. It was far too late for real daylight by the time I got around to making the sandwich but my intent is to use the light as fill on the shadow side when I do natural light food photos. So, this was lit only with the HappyLight and and some foam core white boards as reflectors.

Thanks rkaufman ... do a little research and decide if you want the light. This one seems fine so far but I did see some negative reviews on line after I picked it up. Mostly related to the bulb not working or having been broken upon opening the package. It might be because it ships with the bulb fitted already. Anyways, just give the package a little shake before purchasing

This was the 7.5k LUX model - it goes from 2.5k LUX to 7.5K LUX using two different lens and two power settings. Hope that helps.

I would defently eat that sandwich. So well done.

Love that you used that lamp! I've never thought of that.. Think I'll try your idea someday.

Thanks Vanilli - it was a tasty sandwich, in case I hadn't mentioned it. I need to give the lamp another workout sometime soon.

Please post here/give a hint if you do :)
I have the IceLight for somewhat the same use, but one could always use a little more, right.

Great shot, though I would have chosen greener lettuce for the top piece. Needs more contrast from the reds in the tomato, bacon, and meat.
