(edit - I should have used another term for the loud motor noise I hear) I purchased a new 56mm and the motor seems too noisy when focusing and changing between play and capture. Is this normal? I also have the 18-55 and that is what I have for comparison.

56 is a little noisier than the 18-55 which was pretty darn quiet.

would not call it noisy at all. Much quieter than any of my canon lens for auto focus.

same experience here, but really isn't too noisy, and for me the image quality makes up for any slight increase in motor noise.

Thanks for the replies - I'll set my concerns aside. The lens does make pretty pictures. :)
