The first pick may be a little grainy... I took the pic out of the car window, and had to crop so the guard rail wasn't showing. I shot the pic with my Nikon Coolpix L120 (The only camera I have other than a GoPro)
The second pic, I used my fathers little point and shoot water proof camera. I just held it water level, and hoped for a good pic.
I'm looking into purchasing a DSLR, but I can' t find the classifieds on here. (If anybody has a link that would be much appreciated)
Also, does it help if I post before and after pics?
Thank you,
BC

The first one is kind of depressing, so if that was what you had in mind, then I guess you were successful. ; )
#2 is interesting.

Two statements in your post caught my eye.

1. If the scene was impressive enough to draw your attention and prompt you to get a shot, then you owed it to the scene and to yourself to get out of the car and take a proper picture.

2. As you gain more experience, you will stop "hoping for a good pic". Good photos are seldom snap shots, although there are some rare exceptions. Rather, they are created by a photographer who has a vision of what the final product should look like and does his/her best to bring that about.

Also, it's not about the camera. If you ran out and bought an SLR right now, you'd be getting the same quality photos -- maybe a little sharper and with bigger files. But if you don't get out of the car and you continue to shoot on a wing and a prayer, you'll not see an improvement.

When you're a backseat passenger, running late on a family trip... you have to get what you can.
If I was by myself I definitely would've stopped, but I wasn't.

I'll post a pic, where I was trying for the shot I got.
