Makes sense. Canon's 50 1.4 could use an update similar to the 35 IS.

Think new Canon lenses are overpriced? Lots (and lots) of data will set you free!

smythie I wasn't even trying More info | Feb 04, 2015 03:12 | #4 Considering how well the 35 does at f/2.0 and that the 50/1.4 really needs to be stopped down to f/2.0 anyway it might not be such a bad thing. Not ideal though

Feb 04, 2015 07:56 | #5 I think a 50 1.4 IS priced a little less than the Sigma ART lens would sell like hotcakes if the quality is the same as the 35 IS.

Feb 10, 2015 14:24 | #8 My guess is its a 50mm f1.8 IS USM which will fit with the 24 and 35mm IS USM. Which is amazing, and Id love to replace my nifty fifty with a proper mechanical model Canon 5d, 60d, 17-40mm L, 30mm Art, 50mm, 85mm

Feb 10, 2015 15:22 | #9 Canon's best non L 70-300 is currently selling for $650. The Tamron 70-300 VC is selling for $450 and currently has a $50 rebate I think. It is optically superior to Canon's best non L 70-300 in all published tests and built like a tank. It's one of the best values around. If this new 70-300 is $650 (or more) and not clearly better than the Tamron, it's a waste of Canon's time. Canon 7d MkII, Canon 50D, Pentax 67, Canon 30D, Baker Custom 4x5, Canon EF 24-104mm f4, Canon EF 100mm f2.8 Macro, Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5, 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC

What are you basing that on? Judging by the latest non L EF prime lenses, Canon is aiming at video and that hints at IS. Also, a rumor about the 50 was around a couple of years ago when the 35 IS was released. Canon 5d, 60d, 17-40mm L, 30mm Art, 50mm, 85mm

I think could be interesting if the build quality and the bokeh improve respect the other Canon 50mm ... (naturally put aside the 1.2 edition).
