Bare with me guys, I am a bit of a noob when it comes to flash.

Here's what I want to achieve.

Camera set up with remote wireless trigger, off camera flash(wireless).

Here's what I have so far.

Hahnel Giga T 2 wireless shutter trigger.
Yongnuo 568 II flash.

What do I need to add?

Though not an absolute necessity a light stand and a stand mount as well as a modifier like a shoot through umbrella, can make your life easier and light softer.
That should good to get going

Change the opening line of the thread to 'total noob'.

Are you saying I have enough already to achieve what I want to do?

If your camera has a built-in flash, it can trigger the Yongnuo. S2 setting on the Yongnuo if your flash is E-TTL. S1 if you can set your on-board to manual.

Thanks for that info.

I have visions of setting up like the picture here. Will this be possible and what Yongnuo wireless unit would I need for HSS?

To summarise, wireless flash transceiver on body (7D2) & Hahnel wireless shutter trigger piggybacking the Yongnuo. 568 with wireless receiver off camera.

Possibly not. It depends what camera you have - or more specifically if it has an on-board flash that can trigger the Yongnou using optical wireless control. That will be OK to get you started but there are drawbacks to optical wireless - your flash must have line of site to your camera and it may not work as well outdoors, in bright sunlight.

Unless you are specifically looking to do timed multiple exposures etc the Giga T Pro 2 isn't really what you want. As mentioned above I would look at the Yongnou range of wireless transceivers such as the YN-622.

I am shooting wildlife so not really looking to get very creative with flash, just provide some illumination on those dull days and early morning/evenings.

The idea is to set my 7Dii with the shot on mind, retreat to critter oblivious distance and do what wildlife togs do best........ wait.

The Yn 603 Mark I shown in your photo does not offer HSS (true 40-50 KHz pulsing) - you probably don't want HSS anyway?

Canon's 'Canon Wireless - Light-IR type' eg from your 7DII's pop-up flash is not super reliable outside in high ambient conditions.

Consider Yn 622Cs or Phottix's Odin / Mitros + options.

Photo was grabbed off the net just to illustrate what I was thinking would be similar to my set up.

So I can piggyback a suitable Yongnuo wireless unit and the hahnel and have what I need?

Did I say I was a noob? Lol

you could get three YN 603 II and solve all your problems while ditching the Hahnel Giga

you would have one on your camera, one on your flash and one in your hand.

press the button on the one in your hand and your camera and flash fire. Make sure you get the right cord, between the 603 and camera, for your model camera.

The Hahnel would be back up or you could use it for it's more advanced features. Assuming this is what you have: http://www.hahnel.ie …tion/productSearch/pid/80 (external link)

This is the answer I was looking for. Thanks.

***Edit***

I really do think with all your help I am getting close to what I need. One final question, I want to retain E-TTL for this remote set up, would I need two (send/receive) YN-622C and then one YN-603 II to act as the trigger?

As a noob to remote triggering I want to leave as many settings to the equipment as possible; I have enough headaches with finding/baiting/approaching my wildlife sites already. I want to set-up, retreat to my blind and have the gear adapt to the variable lighting conditions automatically.

no.

the 603 and 622 don't talk, and the 622 won't trigger the camera. You would need 2 of each. Put the 622 in the hotshoe and then the 603 in the 622. At that point though, you might as well stick to picking up 2 - 622 and use your current trigger.

FWIW, seems like these kind of shots would be best done with the flash on camera. In that case, the 622 (edit: i had 603 here it's hotshoe is not ETTL) has ETTL pass through and the whole rig would just sit on your camera.

I don't believe your Hahnel remote trigger needs to be in the hotshoe. Just pug the receiver into the side of the camera and let it hang by the cable.

All you need to get is a set of 2 Yongnuo 622C's. One you put on the camera hotshoe to act as a remote flash transmitter, and one you put under the flash to act as the remote flash receiver.

This is all you need: $81.52 http://www.bhphotovideo.com …e_ttl_wireless_flash.html (external link)

You will have full control over the remote flash including ETTL and High Speed Sync.
