I'm toying with the next purchase and am wondering what people find to be their favorite lens when shooting around 24mm.

Do you have a crop or full-frame camera? 24mm will look different on a crop camera than it will on a FF.

Heya,

Samyang 24mm F1.4 (manual lens). Wicked sharp. Excellent coma handling. Really good optics. Precision focus. Fast glass. Fraction of the cost of something with AF, and still optically superior to Canon's L version.

Very best,

Either the 24 TS-E or the Nikon 14-24.

Both incredible, fantastic, and extremely versatile lens.

I have thought about this one as well.
Do you use a focusing screen?

I use my 17-40 at 24mm. Wish I could afford the EF 24mm f/1.4L II. For speed, as close as I can get it the 28 1.8. Considered the Samyang 24, but MF @ 24mm & f/1.4 scares me. I have the Rok 14, but shoot it mostly at f/8-16.

Very best,

EG-s on the 6D. I read opinions coming down on both sides of this one.

^ I got the EG-S for my 6D I actually ordered and got it before picking up my camera.
I shot maybe 3 frame to test the 6D for a failure, then swapped in the EG-S screen.
With my 50 1.4 I saw a noticeable improvement wide open, exactly what it's designed to do.
Best $22 I spend on an accessory.

Note: this screen is only for the viewfinder.
Tip: You must change the setting in the 6D menus to EG-S screen to correct metering.

To OP: I am very happy with my 24L II, I actually bought it while I had my T4i (650D) camera
I liked my 50 1.4 wide open, and wanted the same DOF with a wide FOV on crop.
I chose not to compromise on a slower lens and desired AF. I saved up a lot and bought it.
It was amazing and exactly what I wanted. I was on my crop 90% of the time.
It actually replaced my 17-55 zoom. I just used my 24mm and my 50mm combo.

I have not uses the Samyang, but i hear good things on this forum about it.

I am not sure if you have a crop camera or a FF. If crop:
You can try out the new 24mm EF-S pancake if you are sticking with crop.
I got to try the new 10-18mm lens with a friends camera and I was impressed with that new lens as well.

I shoot with 1Ds bodies and a 1D. I already have this focal length covered with a few lenses, so I know it well ;)

To be a little more specific I'm leaning toward getting the 24mm TS/E again (had the original). The 24mm f1.4 or Mark II 24-70mm could get some good use too.

I loved my TS/E, but got rid of it to finance another purchase about 7 years ago. 24mm typically comes out for landscapes and a lot of daylight walking around situations. Not afraid of manually focusing as I probably end-up doing that 1/3rd of my shooting time....500 or 600mm + 2x, macro, or playing with a fisheye Zenitar.

Samyang sounds interesting!

I am a freak for wide-angle, so I actually have the 24-105, 24L II, 24 TS-E II, 16-35 II, and the 14-24 Nikon.

That said, they all have different uses for me, even though many would seem redundant. I use each of them for specific needs, as each lens has totally different qualities and strengths, depending on what you need to do with it.

So, what do you need to do with it?

I ended up snagging a nice little deal on a used 24mm TS/E f3.5L II a few minutes ago. I've been missing this lens and am excited to see the difference in image quality against the Mark 1 I used to have.

For me, the 24/1.4L II. The main thing for me here is that nothing looks like a very wide, very fast lens on FF other than this.
