OFFICIAL : 5DS and 5DS R Announced

Well I finally was able to get out and test 5DSR and I am very pleased with what this camera will do!

my anecdotal analysis of this anecdotal data is that the supposed direction Canon is taking (a camera for virtually every use) seems to be supported.

we have come to the point where gear packs so many features relative to retail price, and then provides such an extended use (at least in our throw away society) we will accept having specialized bodies.


good thing for sony too, considering all their faults.

so you had taken a photo of your phone?

Yes! This is a screen shot but I can post a full resolution shot when I get home. Don't have my laptop with me as I am currently at work..

Pretty much exactly what I expected; just a hair more read noise than the 5D3 at high ISOs, and significantly less at base ISO. Of course, the 5Ds has a lot less banding noise than the 5D3, so that high-ISO edge for the 5D3 may actually be non-existent in practice, and the base-ISO benefit of the 5Ds is a bit better than what DxOMark charts.

wow... i wasn't expecting any improvements in that department, so this is really welcome! and also a bit more color depth! man.... i really gotta find a way to afford this thing.

Add the ability to use the added pixels for NR with the less banding noise and I have tested 12,800iso now pretty rigorously comparing the 5DSR vs the 5D3 and I can confidently say that I can get a better end result with the 5DSR at 12,800 iso than with my 5D3 - not remotely what I thought was going to happen. This is in no way a reason to purchase this camera - i.e. to shoot at 12,800 - it is just a very nice happy finding.

Pre-ordered the 5DS R after a lot of thought. Thanks for helping me with the discussion here.

just received my 5dsr yesterday.....

and now i have a good problem (i think): just quickly taking shots around the apartment i can easily see the resolution limits of the lens. it's so amazingly easy to see the difference in resolution between the wide and tele sides of one of my zooms! and the wrong end don't look too great ha ha

From what this photographer has done, the images from the 5DsR is breathtaking.
