100-400 f/4.5-5.6 L (V1) mechanical issue?

I don't remember for sure but I tend to always need to crop so would lean towards yes.

Wait until you see the effect of heat haze effecting your bokeh!

i'm not sure if it looks like a focusing issue, in your crops, it doesn't look like anything is in focus...it's all hazy...i'd send it in

Yeah, the haze is barely noticeable on the camera's screen, but when I get home and load it up at full size, it just looks terrible. Like a nylon was stretched over the lens.

I have... I was really surprised how much it stands out. The power line towers are about 3 miles away. Amazing I'd never noticed this with even a 200 f/4 IS L before.

I finally took the lens into a local camera shop (Canon authorized dealer and service center). They had a new copy of the same series I, so I was able to do some comparisons.

New lens on the left, mine on the right. Significant difference in contract and sharpness.

After seeing this, the lens has been sent off to Canon. I'll post updates in case anyone has a similar issue with this glass.
