Here's what happened:

I played around with multi-quote to see how it worked. I selected a few, but never posted with them and moved on.

A few days later I went to reply in a different thread in a completely different forum and up popped the multi-quotes from days previous.

Better than having multi-quotes time out if not used, I think if a person selects MQs and does not use them, as soon as the user exits reading that thread, the MQs (selected) should disappear.

People, and I'm one of them, will often use the MQ function to reply to someone in a different thread. My personal preference would be to have the AMASS 1.0 behavior where the MQs don't get placed into your reply automatically; you could choose to insert them individually as needed/wanted. However, the majority of users seem to have a preference for the MQs being automatically inserted in a reply, and Pekka's decision to make MQs available until used (or cleared) seems to be well-thought-out.

The same thing happened to me when I reported a different problem with MQ, except that days hadn't passed, only minutes. I think it was a temporary malfunction.

Better than having multi-quotes time out if not used, I think if a person selects MQs and does not use them, as soon as the user exits reading that thread, the MQs (selected) should disappear.

The quotes are intentionally made to persist if you use MQ in another thread, for the reason Jon gave.

Appreciate the replies. However, I disagree on the usefuleness of the present design.

As a test I went to another forum, grabbed 3 MQs, then came here to reply.

All three were quoted. Upon going to the Quote Tools, there was no option to clear quotes from present post. There is an option to clear multiquotes, but when you press it it does not clear the quotes already in the post. To do so, you either need to manually edit or cancel the post, press confirm to cancel, then click to reply again.

There should be an option in the Quote Tools box to "Clear Multi Quotes in Present Post". With that you can clear the quotes, then press the Clear Multi Quotes button to stop them from popping up in the future.

Well, like I said, I preferred the AMASS 1.0 implementation, where you had to add the MQs to the post yourself.

The solution is simple:

To clear a post from automatically added MQ's: After you reply and MQ's are inserted press UNDO once (the green arrow left). Only one click of undo is needed.

You can also press CTRL+A (="select all") and then hit space.

Should I add to settings "do not add MQ's automatically"? How frequent really is the case that you do NOT want to add them (you did pick them for that reason alone) and you do NOT want to reply to them in posting time order?

For me, a fair percentage of the times I use MQ (as distinct from "Quote") I don't want to use them in the sequence I picked them, but I'm probably not typical. If it's not a big programming deal, I wouldn't mind it, but there are certainly things that would be more generally useful to more people.

If quotes are going to be inserted automatically into my reply, I'd like them to appear in the order in which they were posted, regardless of which one I picked first. The way 1.0 did it worked well for me, but some people needed help using that system. The way 1.1 does it works well enough. I don't see this variation as a big issue.

Maybe Jon and I are the only ones, but when I am composing a post, I prefer to use MQ's as they best fit into the context of what I am writing about which rarely has anything to do with a timeline. It's only a minor inconvenience since I generally use a whole jar of paste shifting things around before I am finally done composing a post.
