MEMORY CARD CANNOT BE ACCESSED

I have a Canon EOS 700D and I have a 8GB SD card which I bought like a month ago. A week ago I was transferring the photos on the card on to my mac and I used the built in card reader. After I imported everything through iPhoto I clicked on ''Delete images on card'' and it all froze and stopped working so I had to force iPhoto to close. After that I inserted the card in my camera and suddenly I got a message telling me ''Card cannot be accessed. Reinsert change card or format card with camera''. I was so confused, I tried reinserting the card several times and I also formatted the card (but I did it through my mac :S) Now the card won't work and I don't know why. I've read a couple of threads everywhere and some say that it could be a pin which is bent, but I don't know if it's bent so I'm going to show you a picture of the card reader in my canon. The card works when I put it in the card reader in my mac, but there aren't any files there. I tried putting the card in my other camera, Sony a55, and I got the same message there so I'm hoping it's the card and not the camera itself because I bought the camera just a month ago. I really hope some of you can help me and tell me what to do and tell me if any pins are bent or broken?

Well, bent pins happen in Compact Flash (CF) card readers; you have a Secure Digital (SD) card, which uses a totally different type of contacts, so bent pins aren't the problem. Since you're getting the error message in several cameras, I think the card is at fault, probably due to the freeze in your Mac while it was trying to write to it (delete the files). Can you put the card back into your Mac and try reformatting it there? Otherwise, just get another card.

Cards should only be formatted by the camera. Try formatting it with the camera and see if it works.
Going forward, it's usually quicker to format the card in the camera than having your computer delete the photos from the card.

Cards should only be formatted by the camera.

That's a myth. Formats in the computer usually give you a more thorough format and, especially with SD type cards, allow a full format, not a quick format, so are more likely to find errors before your pictures discover them.

Formating in camera does more than set up the structure of the card, it usually also writes two directories. SD cards also contain hidden space with information on them, hence the secure, so the files on a card can be linked to the card - for example I have map cards that with files that oonly work with that card inserted. This is done when the card is made.

Cards need to be formatted as FAT32 to work in most cameras.

Bigest cause of card failure in camera is if you delete files - doing so is more likely to lead to bits of files being lost and FAT errors because card writing is slow by most standards and failure normally occurs where the card is most written to, the FAT, but this also means files are often recoverable from a faulty card, especially if one formats each time a card is put in the camera (basically writing a new FAT) and don't delete any files from the card until all data transfered.

If all else fails, use the SD Association card formatting tool at https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/ (external link). Then install in camera and do the low level format. Moving a card between two different brands of cameras, in your case Sony and Canon, is asking for trouble.
