I generally dislike "What lens should I use?" questions, but alas I have to ask one myself. Here goes...

I am going to do some video of a Toastmasters meeting with my Canon 6D. It will be indoors, medium lighting, no windows for outside lighting. I have a power cord, 32GB memory card, and microphone. I expect it to be on a tripod and probably not moved around, just sitting there recording.

Video is not my forte. I bought the camera for still photos, and the video capability was incidental in my mind. Well, here I am using it.

I have several lenses, but I'm thinking one of these three would be the better option...

1) 24-105 f4L
2) 40mm "pancake"
3) 50mm f1.8 Mk1

I also have a 100mm f2.8L Macro IS, but I think that'd be too long.

Thoughts? Thanks.

If the pancake is STM, go with that for the silent focusing.

It is the STM.

The 6D does not autofocus during video so use of a STM is irrelevant.

If you will be focusing on moving subjects you should stop down a bit for more DOF so faster doesn't mean much. Manual focusing might be the biggest concern for lens choice if field of view is not an issue.

24-105 so that you can at least do some different types of shot. Video is always more interesting when you can change between wide, medium, and close up type shots.

Not sure if f4 will be fast enough for you. You can bump up the ISO, but personally o try not to go over 1600, though 3200 if you really have to. After all, a grainy image is better than a dark image or no image at all.

I think the Canon 50mm f1.4 is a great all around lens for low light. Great for close ups and medium shots, and fast aperture of course. Might be wanting some wide angle shots at times though.

Another option would be the Canon 35mm f2 IS. Have never used this personally but it's wider, still pretty fast, and IS will definitely help for handheld/monopod shooting.

I used my friend's 6D and 28mm 1.8 once and it was just sublime for video.

I shot it at it's H2 setting(25K ISO) and no issues with a bit of de-noising, 1080 no troubles.

First camera I've ever used where the expansion ISOs were actually usable.

For what it's worth I went with the 40mm STM.
