I'm traveling to Paris in several months and plan to take photos from the Roof top terrace of Montparnasse tower. There are glass walls around the terrace with open slots in them to take unobstructed photos. If anybody could please answer with how high up from the ground the photo slots are, it would be much appreciated.

I'm packing light, so taking only travel tripod (which is quite short), might consider buying a clamp if the slot height is too high for my tripod. I've looked all over the net, and couldn't find any info about the photo slot height from ground level.

Thanks in advance.

Between 160cm-175cm, something like that.

I shot there with Gitzo GT2542T with center post extended, the opening is around 5' - 5'6. It could get very windy up there, it's probably best to time the shot when the wind breaks than to lug a super heavy tripod just for this. Clamping onto the glass pane probably won't help much because the glass vibrates in the wind (I tried!).

Thanks for the info. I ended up buying a small clamp - hopefully I'll be a able to catch a break in the wind to take a long exposure night shot.

Really, there are glass walls at the top of the Montparnasse tower now? There wasn't any a few years ago when I went up there. That's a shame. I know it's for safety but damn it's getting more and more complicated to shoot from tops of buildings nowadays.

Yes, there are glass walls now. The slots for photos are about 5 feet hight. You gotta stake out your spot if you come during tourist season and want to take sunset photos.
