I would love to have this lens with a full-frame camera when I get to fly in the middle of an aerobatic team formation, I have the EF17-40 but it's paired with the 1D II/III, and now IV series cameras so it's more like 22mm at the widest end, I've always wanted that extra wide end coverage to convey that sensation of "metals everywhere" surrounding the aircraft I am in.

It is such a dynamic environment that changes every millisecond, there is no way to take a whole bunch of shots then stitch them together, unlike with a landscape shot.

Alas I can hardly justify spending that kind of money on one lens for the few times it will be used in this scenario.

Unwavering Canon shooter for the last 35 years.

Rokinon to the rescue, again! My Rok 14mm f/2.8 cost me $297, and it focuses closer than the Canon.

Let us know if your Rokinon resolves 50 MP.

I see you have the new 16-35 f4. Is the 11- 15mm worth $1800 to you? If so...rock on!

honesty I don't know but if it is I will buy it. i'm thinking a better way for me to go is keep my 16-35L f4 IS and add a used 14L which would cost about the same as the 11-24L but allow me to keep IS on the wide end, use filters and also add 14mm and f2.8.

but like I said I don't know. i'll be renting or buying a 14L before I go to Moab next month for a one-week birthday trip thanks to my lovely wife and i'll rent the 11-24 sometime in the future, and then make a decision.

I shoot UW a lot and this is a unique lens but whether its for me remains to be seen.

Well, what about $4000 for a standard prime with no autofocus and a third stop slower than the Canon L lens :p

Granted, it is Zeiss rather than Canon but still if you want the ultimate in something, don't be surprised to pay a lot of money for it.

I don't really see 3k as unexpected for this kind of glass. I feel like it was built for the new 5D. I probably won't get one but I can definitely see the draw.

I am not quite sure what you mean by that. Refer to included photozone.de charts and get back to me, please. Perhaps you wish you'd bought the $300 lens that outperforms the $1,200 lens?

Interesting, I've not seen that before. FWIW, it seems that Bryan Carnathan has the opposite results: http://www.the-digital-picture.com …omp=0&FLIComp=0&APIComp=0 (external link) (Samyang 14mm vs Canon 16-35 f/4L IS at f/4)

Anyway, for most people, the 16-35mm f/4L IS is a much better value, but you really want the widest of the UWAs, then you have to pay good money for it.

Well, they certainly have vastly different results, don't they? On TDP, the distortion and CA from the Rokinon are quite evident.

Keep in mind that I am not claiming the Rok is better than the Canon. PZ did that. I am only stating that for my money, a $300 lens that comes really close to the $1200 (or $3,000) lens is worth a look. I am happy with it. But I'd surely be interested in the 11-24 if I win the lottery.
