Which begs the question, anyone here able to recommend a pair of Bluetooth NOISE CANCELING headphones that actually cancel noise?

I paid over $100.00 for a set by Sony that I thought would be good enough for the Gym, and they are excellent and very functional (controls in the head phones!)

But, they are "on ear" (as opposed to over ear) and the noise canceling simply does not block out all the ambient noise. My goal is to NOT have to crank the volume to drown it out.

Never payed too much attention to this band, when I was a teenager. Happened to listen to the album, when I turned 42-ish, and could not fathom how I missed this band.

I'm confused...you mean in-ear? I would think that in ear should have noise cancellation by virtue of the fact that it's the only sound going into your ear drums as the rest of the world is sealed out of it...

Yes, a bit childish. Was one of my favorite bands, 27yrs ago. I can still enjoy this music. Nostalgia does have some part, in it. But, I do think that Robert Smith really was cool.

On Ear- headphones sit directly on the ear.
Over Ear cover the ear without touching it (think of "cans" over your ears)
In Ear are the "earbud" style of phones that come with most phones.

Whether or not they block outside noise depends on whether or not they have an open or closed design. For example, I have a pair of Bose IE2 that are an open backed, in ear phone. I can still clearly hear whats going on around me with them in my ears.


CD, check out HeadFi and InnerFidelity. Those sites should be able to help you find a good pair of noise canceling phones.

Wirecutter has good article on active noise cancelling headsets, but they did not look at BT capable ones. I use a long discontinued Nokia 905 that I use on the train. Active noise cancellation effectiveness is very dependent on frequency ranges. I doubt that anyone could recommend a set that would be sure to work in your environment. When mine die (not for a long time I hope), I'll look at something like the Sennheiser MM 550-X. This is definitely a category where you want to buy from somebody with a good return policy.
