Maybe we could use similar fixed "close" times on these DSLR challenges, but I suspect part of the problem is that there there are more professionals with less time to spare here than on the G-series.

I didn't realize that the DSLR Speed Challenge doesn't have a weekly schedule. Another difference is that in G-land we have runners-up who can carry on if the first-place winner disappears or has an emergency.

I think Canon used to make point & shoot cameras whose model name started with the letter "G".

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

I was talking about the weekly challenge in this POTN forum.

They still do. These are bridge or "prosumer" cameras, with just one lens but more controls, more flexibility, than on small compacts. The latest model is the G16.

I....Another difference is that in G-land we have runners-up who can carry on if the first-place winner disappears or has an emergency.

So I have a suggestion: Let's make it standard in the DSLR challenges that second and third runners-up be named.

This would need little effort by judges and would have two advantages: recognition would be given to more than a one deserving entry, and in the event that the winner couldn't run the next challenge a runner-up would take over.

How about starting it when you judge the current challenge, Voaky?

When the email is fixed with the next software release it will make it easier for the winner to find out.

Sounds like a great idea. I think that to be most effective, we should have a time limit for the winner to get the next challenge up. That way the runner up isn't left hanging, wondering if and when they should make the thread. If the winner hasn't gotten the next challenge up by ___ o'clock on ________day, then either of the runners-up can go ahead and make the thread for the next challenge. But I do think we should be gracious in how much time we give the winner - at least one full day after the previous week's entry deadline, I would hope.

[QUOTE=Tom Reichner;17440950]....I think that to be most effective, we should have a time limit for the winner to get the next challenge up.........

I don't think we need it. In the G-series challenges (I think the longest running competition on POTN) when a winner seems to be off the air and there is no response when the judge sends a reminder PM, then the second place winner is asked to take over. Please let's not have more rules when they are not needed!
