Hi all,

This is one of the first shots I ever took with my Tamron 90mm macro 1:1 lens. I would love some feedback on the shot - it's SOOC...

Nice shot. European hornet...deadly to honey bees...probably the same to native/orchard/etc., bees.

Thanks for the kind comments both!

@Intheswamp - thanks for the info. I must admit that I jut thought it was a wasp... Otherwise I would've been a bit more wary of it making a home in the bee box!

I keep a few hives of honey bees and these are definitely known to be a pest. It wasn't looking for a home but probably for dinner for itself or it's larvae...it really seeks the bee larva as it is basically pure protein. A honey bee is basically defenseless against them.

At least it isn't the giant Japanese hornet (not for the weak of heart)... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZ1eAM8CChc (external link)

Interestingly though, the asian honey bees have figured out a way to fight back... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkIvM0dKhS8 (external link)
