I had owned the original Canon 400mm DO previously and was never thrilled with it so I sold it. With the release of V2 I rented first and was so impressed I decided to buy one. It is the perfect combination of weight, size, and reach for my style of shooting. It also works well with a 7D II and a 1.4X to give you a 5.6 at 560 plus crop factor. I am extremely glad I bought it .

Anyone have experience with this 400mm and 2x extender? I have the version 3 2x extender and am contemplating adding this lens for sports. I have 400 mm at f5.6 covered with 70-200 f 2.8 L iii and 2x iii. With the 400 f4 would effective fstop be f8 with the 2x? My 1Dx should be able to auto focus? (I use center focus spots most of the time anyway).
