Got a quick visit to cover first half of rugby of Saturday. Thankfully the big storm had cleared but there wasn't much heat about. 2 degrees not the easiest to be playing in or taking photos.

I'm getting withdrawal symptoms. Between attending the internationals at Murrayfield, illness and away fixtures, it feels like we are back in lock down

Not sure why the SRU has KO at 3pm in December the North of Scotland. Lights were on before the game started !!

a new addition to the squad, scoring 4 trys on his debut. needless to say, man of the match, but also his birthday. so that's two yards he's got to sink when he hits 18

couple more, including the grandson who had a 'mare and in his words "should have stayed in bed". he doesn't like losing. or getting wet...

Opinion on the Sigma 120-300? Thinking about adding it to my gear. Pics look great.

Thank you. I like the 120-300 a lot. Started to get into that 300 f2.8 territory with an old version of the Sigma 120-300, which got me some decent results when it could get focus quick enough. Used it on my EOS 1Dx -ii . Focus on that old version of the lens was too limiting for me, but I liked the results when in focus. Therefore decided to get the Sports version of the lens.

The Sports version performed nice on the 1Dx-ii and now that I've switched to mirrorless, the 45MP of the R5 makes it even more usable from a cropping point of view.

Can't compare the focus speed with the big f2.8 whites from Canon, but for me as an amateur with an expensive hobby it certainly suffices. I did not shoot it side-to-side with my Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS versions 1 or 100-400mm version 1, but it doesn't feel like those lenses focused any faster. I don't feel limited by the focus speed.

Furthermore I certainly like the zoom range. Although the 300 f2.8 was my main objective with the lens, the zoom range is versatile and useful when I sit just outside the try-area and when they come close to the line. Also when shooting along the sideline, the 120 can be useful when action gets near, although 120 is still too long for real close by action. When I shoot sideline I do prefer the 120-300 over the 70-200 as it just has a larger useful area of coverage.

I used one years ago and liked the range, but went with a non i.s. Ef 300 f2.8. You could always try a 1.4x tcon for a similar range, about 105-280mm, to see if it suits your style and a little cheaper I would imagine.
