Since having a proper tripod i think more about treating it good.

So my question is do you clean your carbon fiber tripods after a day in the city?
If using it in sand or near the water i am sure ill clean it because you can see the dirt, but do you clean your tripod regularly?

If yes, what do you use?

I wipe mine down every so often.... always after I'm in a dusty environment... occasionally if I'm not. Wash after shooting at the beach or if it's been windy.

I haven't taken it apart yet. I will, eventually, I'm sure.

I normally do a wipe down with a dry cloth after washing it's feet.

Fully dismantle the leg sections after shooting in water. The sand and small particles that gets in the crevices just scratches the heck of it's surfaces as I extend or retract the legs.

For my aluminium tripods, I wipe and clean with turps. Avoid WD40 if possible.

I only have cleaned mine when I felt dragging when moving the legs. After a beach excursion I gave it a complete teardown though. It doesn't need to be babied.

If your going to shoot on sand or a bit of water grab a few umbrella bags and keep them in your bag with rubberbands wrapped around them. Keeps the legs nice and clean/dry and if they get really dirty you can just toss them afterwards.

I don't usually bother unless it has been in use around or come in contact with salt water. I just give it a rinse and let it dry.

I found a product called Tripod Covers

http://tripodcovers.com/ (external link)

They sound like they'd be thicker than umbrella bags. Also, they can be ordered at any length.

I use a damp microfiber cloth to wipe it down. I take it apart if at the beach or in the dirt. Really Right Stuff has a nice series on caring for your tripod on YouTube.

I don't really clean or wipe mine, but then again, I don't get it dirty in the first place. When I'm shooting in dirty or oily areas I do wipe the tips, or improvise some 'gloves' with pieces of plastic and rubber bands/gaffer that I discard when I'm packing up.

I don't baby mine but if I feel grit in the threads or any unusual sound or feel any unusual resistance when working with the legs I will strip it apart, clean, and relube it. I have only had to do that once or twice and I've had this particular tripod for at least 8 years now and it's still going strong.

This baby has been with me since 1989. Half way round the world and back. Never seen a day of pampering apart from the occasional strip down after a trip to the beach/river/swamp/pond. They just make good tripods. Heavy...and great for long exposures with fairly heavy equipment.
