I would post images, but the truth is they just look as if they have been over panned. The issue is the amount, in some shots the amount of blur is almost commensurate with having been following the other half of a crossing formation maneuver. This isn't just at 600mm either. In fact I had a look and there are a lot like that even when shooting at between 200 and 300mm. I do not get results like this when using my unstabilised Sigma 28-300. I know they are two very different lenses, handling wise, but to go from a 90% plus failure rate with the Tamron to about a 70% keeper rate (at least for panning errors) with the Sigma within these two overlapping focal length ranges has to be about more than technique. Also mostly when I miss pan with the smaller lens I might get a few tens of pixel widths of blur. With the Tamron it is often getting up into the 100's of pixels of blur width. I could accept that it was all down to poor technique if the errors were much closer in amount to those I usually get in the same situation with my normal lens.

Interesting. I panned at sub 1/500 for an entire day with VC on and never noticed it ruining my images. They werent quite as clear as with my 70-200 2.8, but the lens is much heavier and much longer, so I figured it was my technique. I will be interested to see how 600mm at 1/400 will turn out with the Sigma then.

I had the same experience as Alan when I used my Tamron at an air show. Panning at slow shutter speeds with VC on was a disaster. With VC off it was a little better, but not nearly as good as the results when I use Canon lenses with IS mode 2. I ebayed my Tamron.

It makes me wonder if there was (is) a sample variation problem with these Tamrons. Alan and I had bad results while you had good results. There is also a guy on flickr who uses his Tamron for aircraft in flight and gets excellent results...https://www.flickr.com …s/wallyllama/16380826111/ (external link)

Really looking forward to the Sigma C.

I used my Tamron on 50d, 1Dmkiii and 1Dmkiv bodies getting good results from all bodies. I sent the Lens back to Tamron in November for the firmware update and the focus lock was definitely better when it came back, but the VC function was still a complete waste of time for panning. Even the very slightest / slowest panning motion was enough to send the VC cranky and blur the shot.
The Tamron is on a 7Dmkii now, and after making a few adjustments in the camera menu and changing my technique slightly, my hit rate has gone through the roof.
I now shoot 5 frames of each aircraft on high speed burst, and I'm down to 1/50th of a second with at least 3 of 5 keepers every time. It's like this lens and body were made for each other !
I know 2 people who have ditched their Tamrons in favour of the Sigma because the Sigma is faster to focus and offers up better results at the long end in their opinion. I won't be finding out any time soon because I've blown my photography budget for this year on my 7Dii

Well sigma put out a little info graph to compare the contemporary and sport 150-600 lenses.

I'm still more interested in image quality differences and AF speed differences.

I am sure the Sports version will be better, but the lightweight and the smaller diameter of the body and zoom ring REALLY appeal to me. I have been seriously contemplating one of the older Nikon 300mm 2.8 lenses for about $1,500, but this is really interesting. I wish I had a Sigma dealer close to me to take a look at one of these (or any of the new sigma lenses).

I just finished using the sport. I rented it for a trip to Yellowstone. I really liked it. I'm sure it was above my skill level, but was able to get some awesome images. I am looking forward to the C as I really enjoyed the Sport, just not sure I can afford the 2000 price tag. Hoping the C close in image quality. Here's to hopin!

I am really disappointed that there is nothing on either the Sigma UK or Benelux websites about the 150-600 C. They only have the S version listed. Not even a coming soon notice that I could find.

Don't bet on what? The price or the release month?

The price is definitely the price and sigma has been pretty good with sticking to their release dates latly.

There's a difference between being released on time and at the stated price than being really available to everyone who wants to buy one in March...

Supply is usually lower than demand :)

I am wondering how much the west coast port issues is going to delay retailers getting inventory. I suspect similar to the Tamron 150-600 release, that anyone that want(ed) one close to actual release needed to jump on the pre-order right away.

I've just been told by the guys I've pre-ordered with that Sigma have pushed the release into April... (I'm first on the list with this retailer)
