I've wanted to get one since it was first announced but my health issues made me reluctant to spend the money. I finally caved in and bought it. Today I'll be trying it out. Excited about that prospect. I have one question that someone on here may have the answer to. The instructions say that only the Sigma 1.4 teleconverter can be used with the lens. I have a Kenko C-AF 1.5X and a Tamron-F AF 1.4 teleconverters. If I try either of them with the new lens, is there risk of damage of some kind to the new lens?

Mar 12, 2018 14:45 | #378 I have one of the Kenko Teleplus 1.4x extenders which causes an error to be reported when shooting through the viewfinder of my 80D, however it works great in Live View on the 80D or especially on my M6. That's actually one of the main reasons I got the EVF for my M6 was to be able to use the teleconverter with the Sigma 150-600 C. PhotographicMemoriesCT.com

I have tested this lens with my "new-to-me" Canon 1.4x extender III and it seems to work pretty well... I need to play with it some more to see if it's useful...

PietZA Senior Member More info | Mar 02, 2021 04:42 | #384 I know this thread is ancient, but I'm not sure where to ask this question: It seems that software do not recognize "my" Sigma 150-600 C. I'm using DarkTable and have to manually select the lens, while it recognizes all my other lenses. A while back I posted a photo to this forum but got a message that my lens is not recognized! I had to select it from a list. Surely this is not a new lens? Is there something wrong with the EXIF data that my camera is writing to the file? Piet ZA wrote in post #19202246 I'm still learning how to use the Sigma 150-600 C, but the 80D is fantastic in my eyes Hosted photo: posted by Piet ZA in ./showthread.php?p=19202246&i=i157068761 forum: Canon Digital Cameras Advice, C&C welcome

Does the lens need the firmware reinstalling? Have you tried looking at the exif with another software? FWIW I'm a long time Darktable user and have found it to be a very good reader of exif data, this forum on the other hand not so much.

PietZA Senior Member More info | I tried several online EXIF viewers. All report the LensModel as "150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM | Contemporary 015". I also read somewhere that the 015 is the firmware version and that it keeps incrementing as new versions are rolled out. Can it be the reason DarkTable cannot find it in its database? Advice, C&C welcome

I did have a 150-600 C a few years ago and that reported the same as yours with the 015 at the end, no problem with Darktable reading it's exif either then or now.

PietZA Senior Member More info | I tried RawTherapee with the same result (I do not have an Adobe product that will open the Raw file from the 80D). I then opened your file, same result! I did manage to open your image in Adobe Raw. The "Automatic" setting would not pick it up, but when I pick "Sigma" as the manufacturer it automatically selected the correct model and profile. This was not very conclusive, but I'm starting to think that it may be that RawTherapee and DarkTable shares a corrupted/outdated Lensfun database on my PC? Advice, C&C welcome

sidknee Goldmember More info | If the lens is recognised when entered manually I would think it's more likely your exiftool than lensfun. See https://lensfun.github.io/manual/v0.3.2/database.html
