I just watched a YouTube video of the new 11-24 lens and it looks like the lens zooms externally (albeit within the hood). The dpreview summary states that it is internal zoom so I'm not sure which it is. Does anyone know for sure? Thanks.

Great question. Subscribed for the answer from an owner.
Pictures fully extended would help if it's not internal.

Can you share a link to the youtube video?

These stills show that the front element moves in and out as you zoom to different focal lengths. I wonder how they weather seal that part?

The design is very very similiar to the 8-15L F4 Fisheye which I own. Even on that lens the front bulb moves in and out. It is also weather sealed.

OK, so it's definitely moving in and out. Aside from the fish eye, I don't know of other lenses that are weather sealed and zoom externally. I wonder if that will cause an issue with dust.

um... the 70-300 also and come to think of it what about the 24-70s, 24-105, 24-70?

a bunch sealed do in fact move in and out.

The difference is that the front element moves in and out on the 11-24. Lenses like the 17-40, 16-35, and 50 1.2 also have moving front elements and Canon recommends a filter to complete the seal on those lenses. With this 11-24 there is no way to mount a filter so I wonder how "Dust and Water Resistant" it is going to be. Maybe they found a new way to seal the front element.

I assure you it is indeed the front element but it's no different then the lenses I mentioned. It's not just some bare front element moving in and out it's attached to a portion that is just like the other lenses.

Sorry, I don't understand what you are trying to say.

"I assure you it is indeed the front element"
What do you mean?

"It's not just some bare front element moving in and out it's attached to a portion that is just like the other lenses"
Which lens or lenses do you mean?
