I switched from my Canon 6D to an a7R because I wanted the DR and Resolution of the sensor. I do mostly large print conceptual images. The image quality is amazing, but it definitely has quirks. There are some thing I really liked about it, especially the customize-ability. It can function any way you want it to. I personally didn't think the AF was bad, I only had the 55mm FE, which is probably the sharpest lens I have ever used. If you are doing sports or wedding photography, this is not the camera for you. If you do calculated landscape or big artwork, its a great camera. I really loved the electronic VF. Being able to zoom in to manual focus through the eyepiece made AF entirely unnecessary for my needs. Even shooting models for conceptual images.
I have large hands and couldn't get past the shutter shake (may not be an issue for some, but I can't do professional advertising or gallery artwork with a camera that has that kind of fundamental issue), and i couldn't wait any longer for the a9, so I ended up selling it for the Nikon D810 and I am glad I did. It is so much more professional of a rig, but there are definitely things I wish the Nikon has that the a7R has. I'm not totally sold on the a9 either, I think putting 50MP on a FF sensor is pushing the boundaries. I think you need a bigger sensor for that and it will show in the images. I think the D810 is as close to perfect as you can get right now.
Best of luck!
