I am considering trading (selling to buy other lens) for 2 other lenses that perhaps can give me more in return considering what i do ..

First off, still have the t4i and will stay with crop i'm pretty sure as i cant really justify within myself the cost of 5d3 but not sure i would be happy with 6d af , so most lkely when i upgrade it will be for 7d2
i am in no way a pro(im sure you all figured that one out).. i shoot for myself and to share with friends and family.
I am the "family Photographer"..some video, posed pictures or candids at family gatherings etc..(where often lighting is not great, i own one 430ex flash)
aside from that on my weekends some street photography .. and of course when travelling ..

bought the 24-70 2.8 about a year ago , absolutly love it , very sharp huge improvement over the 18-55 kit .. so the trade isnt because i'm not satisfied with image quality..

i want IS for when i do videos.. but i want some thing faster for those low light conditions.. i also want something wider ,, i miss going as wide as 18mm during small gatherings or taking pictures from across a table at a restaurant( small tight places) etc...

i am considering selling the 24-70 and buying the canon 24-105 f4 IS and a Sigma 18-35 1.8 Art( the 24-70 is in 9 out of 10 condition so the sale should cover both if not just a hair short)
My thoghts are..
--the 24-105 for the video of course since it has the IS and it will be a good walk around lens for my street photography days , f4 would be more than enough for that since its usually during daylight hours
--Sigma 18-35 for the usually poorly lit indoor family events, gatherings and this is usually where i miss being able to go wider than 24mm{street photos too when i'm feeling a bit bold )

so,,,, if anyone has any thoughts , agree, disagree , suggestions , opinions theyd like to share on this i'd love to hear it ,, perhaps something i missed that might make me reconsider trading in or other options that i have not thought of

Sounds to me like you've thought this through very well.

I say go for it. The 18-35 is one of the best, if not THE best, crop sensor lenses. It will give you similar image quality to the 24-70 II, though the 24-70 on a full frame would beat it out. The 24-105 is a nice lens and the IS is very good on it.

Though I will say this, and mind you this is coming from a crop format shooter that has no desire to go full frame. If you're ok with the af on the t4i then the af on the 6D should be no problem. The 6d and 24-70 II will give you better sharpness and low ISO abilities then the 7d2 and 18-35. Though that doesn't help you with the IS for video plus the 7d2's af will kick the crap out of the 6d......still food for thought.

P.s. If you plan on sticking to the crop format think about this combo: sigma 18-35mm f 1.8 and sigma 50-150mm f2.8 OS. Unfortunately the 50-150 OS is no longer being produced but it's a hell of a combo on a crop!!

The 6D would be perfect for all the situations you've described above. I have the 5D3 and, while I have to acknowledge it's a brilliant camera, I bought it because I swallowed all the hype about the 6D's "crippled" AF system and I feel like a complete lemon now. I should have saved myself a thousand bucks and bought the 6D! Its AF system is absolutely brilliant for everything except full-on sports and racing/flying animals. For the vast majority of applications, where you'll (probably) use the centre AF point and focus/compose, that single AF point is arguably better than any of the 5D3's points.

Regarding lenses, for the photography you're talking about, I'd use a 6D, 50L and 35 f2 IS (well.. I'd choose the 35L but you said you needed IS!). Given the choice, I'd choose quality over versatility every time. Every time.

Hey fellas thanks for the input i will take all into consideration..

the t4i Af is ok there are moments when it dissapoints but it could also be my lack of experience..but i would say the biggest disappointment comes from the noise even at 800 iso.

None of my friends or family see what i'm talking about then i show them at 100%.. then its "yeah now that you showed me i see it"
but still it bothers me ,

in any case theres the 3rd option of selling the 24-70 and adding that to the money im saving for camera upgrade and buy a 5d3 with the 24-105...and i already own a 50 1.4 for when i need something better than f4...

decisions, decisions!!

For a better video option, you could modify option 1 by changing the old 24-105L for the newer 24-105STM

The lens deserves a full frame body. It'll give you that extra push in quality

I will second and / or third the idea of selling the T4i to get the 6D
I myself owned the T4i and paired it with the 50 f1.4 for a thin dof and street photography myself.

I found a significant lack in my photography because of the terrible noise.
The time it would take to correct this in post was disappointing.
The best decision I made was buying a used 6D.

While EF-S lenses won't work with it, I sold my 17-55mm and my 10-22mm lenses.
I read recently that Canon offers refurbs of the 6D for about $1200 for full warranty.

Thanks again everyone for the input

I went and got a 5d3..
i think i will keep the 24-70 .. and get a 35f2 is for when i do video .. 35mm is just about right for the type of video i do anyway

Now to learn how to use this 5dm3 .. a whole lot differnt than the t4i.. i have to admit i miss the touch screen .. but the images!! wow!!

If you'd stuck with the T4i, I'd have been in total agreement with a swap.

But, since you stretched for the 5DIII, stick with it. Yes, specialty lenses are better at what they do than the 24-70II - but for me, as a hobbyist with varied photographic interests, the 24-70 II is an absolute no-brainer. I made the mistake of selling it once to get some specialty lenses and was back within a few months.

Congrats on the new camera!

The only thought you could have for the future if you want to keep the 24-70mm range for video is to consider the Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 OS; that gives you stabilization along with the wide max aperture in the zoom range (since other options are going to be f4 zooms).

Tools of the trade: Canon 400D, Canon 7D, Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS L M2, Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 OS, Canon MPE 65mm f2.8 macro, Sigma 150mm f2.8 macro, Tamron 24-70mm f2.4, Sigma 70mm f2.8 macro, Sigma 8-16mm f4.5-5.6, Raynox DCR 250, loads of teleconverters and a flashy thingy too

Rante.
Congrats on the 5D Mark III. The AF system on the Mark III is built and improved from the 7D. Once this AF system was included on the 5D Mark III it really gives me what I need, Full Frame and the AF system. One of the reasons I never added a 5D Mark II.
Have you thought about keeping the f/2.8 L Mark II and ADDING another lens?
Have you thought about the Canon 24-70 f/4 L IS?
It's not f/2.8 like you already have, but it does have IS?
I have been using the 24-105 for six years on the 7d and now the 5D Mark III's. The wide end distortion has me looking to add a 24-70 range.
Now if Canon would add IS to your wonderful f/2.8 Mark II.........
