Exposure looks fine, DOF is good but I'm not sure what there is to like about the shot. Technically it's OK. I don't see anything of interest in the frame at all.

Agreed.

The exposure is fine, the white balance looks appropriate, and something is in focus.

A little background . This is roof on the waterwheel at Berry College in Rome Georgia . The green oxidized straps were added where stone shingles had been repaired and replaced . They copper straps were nailed to the roof with copper nails . Old construction and old buildings intrigue me .

I can't seem to upload pic of the mill to this post . Will try to add in new post .

i'd say that this pic falls somewhere into the technical and/or abstract genre.

Technical because at one point this type of craftsmanship was indeed the latest tech. Lots of folks (me included) have a lot of respect for the way things used to be. From that point of view, the subject matter is quite relevant. It would be even more relevant for folks in the area, of folks who have traveled there.

Abstract because of it's framing and lines. The diagonal line seems to work to divide the frame into the subject (shingles and straps) and other things that give a sense of place. I might have tried to get the diagonal line a bit farther from the corners of the picture. Especially the upper right that is dead in the corner.

I think that this would be a good picture with an article or some text, even a blog post, explaining the significance of the structure and building methods. Nice work. hope you'll share more of the building.

Absolutely. If this is the full image, cropping might be tight, or might not work. If you look at the chimney it doesn't look exactly straight. I'm of the opinion things need to be exactly straight or off enough that it's obvios you didn't want it straight. I think as it is it qualifies for off just enough.

If you rotate clockwise you coud probably get the roofline out of the corner without it makin the chimney way too crooked. If you go the other way and crop in on the right you might get them both out of the corner too.

This is kind of nit picking though. If it wasn't fo the upper right I probably wouldn't even have mentioned it.

hope you don't mind, but i took the liberty of doing a crop while my coffee dripped this morning. This is straightening up the chimney a bit, notice also the trees. They are leaning a bit, notice on the right they lean to the left and on the left they lean to the right. Same with the sides of the chimney. This is a natural keystone effect that happens unless the camera is perfectly level. Just something to keep in mind as you crop pictures.

there's no right and wrong here, this is just the way i see it.
