Hi all,

I'm thinking of buying a 3 Legged Thing "Rick" carbon fiber tripod from Jessops (external link).

Anyone have any experience with these? I like the fact that it's light, collapses down to be quite small, and that it has the detachable mono-pod.

I would love to get some feedback from anyone who's used these, and if there are any other similar tripods out there I should also consider.

Thank you!
Chris.

I haven't tried this model but I have used/tried a couple of their larger models.
Yes they are light and they do fold up very small, also they are well made. However I am not a fan as I don't like too many leg sections (the fewer the better IMO) and center columns are generally bad news, let alone multi section ones.
3 LT tripods have a small footprint (distance between the feet for a given height) and this concerns me as they are easily knocked over.
3 LT tripods are well made and easily maintained, but if they had fewer leg sections and a simple center column (or better still no center column!) then they would be class leaders. At the moment I have been far more impressed with the Feisol offerings. Two friends of mine have the 3342 and 3442 models which are an impressive combination of quality/weight/rigidity - see here:

The "Footprint" is still a bit small but I have used them and they are pretty good.
A decent (secondhand) Gitzo would be a better option in my opinion but I am biased as I use Gitzo tripods!

Life is for living, cameras are to capture it (one day I will learn how!).

Wow. Thanks for the in depth response! I'll have a look at the ones you've suggested.
