I use a retina MBP 15" laptop for all post processing and computing needs. When I calibrate the retina screen, I get above 90%of the RGB spectrum. At least thats what I think it is. I just added the Dell monitor in the title and calibrated. The first calibration yielded like 90% RGB, but it was too bright. I adjusted the brightness, as well as the ambient light and re-calibrated. The profile it generated is only 85% RGB. Now, I have done minimal research into this, but is that a decent %? I feel like something is off but I really dont know where to start.

I have been wondering the same thing.
I just bought an Apple Thunderbolt Display and used a Spyder4Pro and got 100% of sRGB and 85% of AdobeRGB. Seems the greens and into a little blue is where it was lacking on the color chart.

You should be able to get 100% or very close to 100% sRGB with a good quality monitor.

If you want to get close to 100% aRGB or ProPhoto RGB you have to spend the money and get a wide gamut monitor. Most photo labs only require sRGB so if you aren't a nut like some of us (me) there is no reason to spend the money it takes to handle aRBG.

B&H lists the monitor you purchased as 99% sRGB. That is fine for most advanced amateurs and probably most professional photographers. Unless your printer handles aRGB there is no real reason for your monitor to.

I use Dell's 2408WFP. U2410, U2711 and UP2414Q. Except for the 2408WFP, all others achieve 100%.

It usually calibrates more accurately in a completely dark room for me.

so am I doing something wrong as I am only getting 85-90% after calibration? I realize this might be nitpicking an extremely small detail so please forgive my ignorance on the subject matter. Im just wondering why my retina screen on the laptop only gets 90% sRBG and the Dell gets roughly 85-90%. I have not adjusted any settings on the Dell, aside from setting the brightness to the recommended 120 (forget what unit of measurement is referenced). I have not adjusted contrast, set it to a specific media profile etc...

You should be getting almost 100% sRGB. The percent you are stating sounds like the percent you should be getting for aRGB.

I hate to ask, but the figure you are stating is not for aRGB instead of for sRGB, is it?

Could also be a fault of your calibrator. Which model do you have? With my basic colorimeter (ColorMonki Smile), I typically get ~95% sRGB with all my monitors, which I suspect is at least in part due to the colorimeter itself (it is not rated for wide gamut monitors).

I use the Spyder4 Pro, same meter as you have, I consistently get 99% sRGB on both of my Asus PA248 monitors(two different PC's). I get 92-93% sRGB on my laptop which has a mediocre LG 1080p panel.

Did you notice a big change after calibration of the U2715H? The spec sheet said that it comes calibrated from Dell, but I have my doubts about that.
