I'm in the process of scanning and digitalizing my 35,00 plus negatives and I'm looking for a program that which will enable me to give each image a number of tags and thus be able to search for them within the archive.
Does anyone know of such a program?

You could use Lightroom and add keywords to the images.

Windows Explorer (if you are a Win user).

As DGStinner said, Lightroom will add keywords to your pics, but that ties you to LR for evermore. Instead, put roll & frame numbers and brief descriptions into the file name. Some scanning apps will help that process by giving the scans preset names.

Thanks Archibald, I'll try that but I was looking for something a little more sophisticated and probably less cumbersome.

I would suggest lightroom as it makes keywording and keyword searching very easy. If your scanning the files as TIF's or PSD you could do the tagging and then export as a jpeg with embedded keywords which would make it easier for sharing vs. huge TIF or PSD files.

I'm scanning as jpeg.I'll have a look at lightroom and see how it works and if it does what I want. Thanks everyone.
