Request for Samples / Opinion - Legacy lenses on Fuji cameras

I am thinking of picking up an XT-1 body to use with Legacy glass that i have. At the beginning, I am thinking to pass on the Fuji Glass for cost reasons, and later on I may start with the 53 1.2.

At this time I have the following M42 lenses : Fujinon EBC 50mm 1.4 / Pentax Takumar S-M-C 55mm 1.8 / CZ Jena Flek 35mm 2.4

How convenient is it to use MF with XT1? Samples would be awesome.!!! Thanks!

Since no one's replied, I thought I'd jump in with my X-E1 experiences. I only have a few Super Takumar lenses (35mm f/2, 50mm f/1.4, 50mm /f3.5 macro, 100mm f/4 macro, 135mm f/2.5, 85-210mm f/4.5) and focusing is easiest with the larger aperture lenses and under good light. Once you get smaller (e.g., the macros and the zoom) or in low light the camera's gain for focusing becomes a bit more challenging. Of course, if you get a Metabones Speedbooster it will double the amount of light coming in and that can help. I have on for my Canon FD lenses, which are much better than my Pentax lenses.

I am most interested in being able to use my 50 1.4 in lieu of the fuji 56 1.2 and was wondering how practical is it for home and family shots (Manual focusing vs Autofocus). A long long time ago, i started photography with X700 and 50 1.7 manual focus lens - there was no auto focus at that time - and i enjoyed that period of photography the most. Even though technology has made our life simpler - I feel (at least for me) the pure joy of photography is missing...... I am wondering if this will get me a step closer to that...

I found my X-E1 worked great with MF lenses and it's EVF is significantly smaller than the X-T1 EVF so I imagine the X-T1 would be even better. It also has more options for manually focusing, like dual screens in the EVF for a constantly magnified view (something I would LOVE to have in my a7S) and a split-prism mode that mimics old SLR focusing screens.

I just bought an X-E1 second hand for this purpose & the same reasons on buying Fuji lenses. I have some old M42 lenses I use to use in my film days & am looking forward to getting back to enjoying true 'M' shooting. My first Fuji I own & I really like it so far. Adaptors arrive tomorrow. I have shot with an X-T1 and really like using it too, that VF is great.

So I finally picked up the X-T1 (Body only) and some MF lenses and adapters to go with it. Shooting MF on X-T1 is so easy and convenient - I am loving it!

Here are a couple of quick and dirty indoor test shots of my sons (They were unwell last wknd at the time of taking these pictures so that may show) These were taken with Fujinon 50 1.4 EBC - I have fallen absolutely in love with the colors and reproduction from this lens.

These images are SOOC Jpegs with only quick resizing and minor sharpening in PS for posting. Aperture priority at 1.4 / available light.

How do you like shooting (Portraits) with 85mm on APS-C? After shooting a little with the Fujinon 50mm (M42), I am not super happy about using 50mm focal length as my primary portrait lens. Even though the FOV is similar to 85 on FF, the camera to subject distance is too short - (Originally I had planned to pick up a XF 56 1.2 down the line, but now i am not so sure if i want to pay 800 bucks for AF and 1 stop difference from the 50 i already have).

Debating between 85mm or 100mm .....

I found it to be a fairly useful focal length, but I much preferred using it with my focal reducer which made it about the equivalent to a 90mm lens on FF.

I actually still have my focal reducer for sale if you're interested, if your location information is right then I live a metro ride away from you

Basically they make negate the "crop" factor when using a FF lens on a APS-C body. They give you the same FOV and DOF that you would get if you used the lens on a FF body with minimal IQ loss.

Recently picked up a FD 300 F4L from Ebay. with Fotasy FD -FX adapter: It makes a fantastic combo with X-t1 - very hand hold able.

A couple from yesterday, taken with FD 80-200 F4L on X-T1, shot wide open. These are basically in-camera Jpegs, (shot in Normal) with slight PP in PS5 for exposure - colors are as shot. I will work on the RAW files later when I have some time available. This is a manual focus lens, but outside of that, I think it can stand up to any Fuji lens including 90mm. I am still practicing on my MF skills, but I think I am improving (not easy to shoot constantly moving kids with MF)

The boys were sick and thus they were home - when they got a little play time outside, I couldn't resist taking a few shots.

So I finally got a chance to take a some of quick (test) shots with a couple of recently acquired 85mm vintage MF lenses. Here are the pictures. These are straight out of the camera Jpegs, transferred to android phone via wireless app and uploaded - no retouching whatsoever. What do you guys think?

I am super happy with both these lenses.

Konica Hexanon 85mm 1.8 (EE High Gloss version)
Canon FL 85mm 1.8 (aperture ring on front of lens version) This lens was a surprise as its relatively inexpensive and always perceived as an underdog to the FD version.

Camera was set to Auto WB in Classic Chrome.
