For macro, birds, and action, I would think the 7D would be great, with the crop factor an advantage.
The 6D has better image quality in low light. In very good light and low ISOs, you can get good results with a crop and sharp primes.
What glass are you using? Do you have fast primes, and does low light performance matter to you?
If you want better low light performance, you will get it with the 6D. I am skeptical about the usefullness of the camera at super high ISOs, unless you don't mind losing detail. It does give you much better output in low lighting and high ISOs than you will get with a crop. Personally, I like to keep the ISO at below 6400 on the 6D, but prefer to keep ISO below 1600 on crop.

I just recently bought a 6D and I am blown away by the image quality over my 7D. The 6D is a great camera, I was worried about the AF coming from my 7D but I used it yesterday photographing my daughter sledding down hills and it was spot on.

6D is a major upgrade over the 5D and definitely worth it. The extra ISO capability, proper LCD, new processor, AF, video, flash transmitter, sensor cleaning etc...

What is "flash transmitter"? I could not find this term in the camera manual.

Flash transmitters will remotely trigger the flash without needing to connect it to your camera with a cable of any sort. This is very convenient as it makes it possible to control flashes which are not actually on the camera.

Normally the flashes will be connected to the hot shoe on top of your camera. This will fire the flash when the shutter button is pressed at the right time. However, when working with flashes which are not connected to the camera, syncing the flash with the camera shutter can be difficult.

The easiest solution to this problem is to use wireless triggers. These will send Radio (RF) signals to the camera flash to cause it to fire.

Ok, thanks.

The 60D does not have a transmitter in this sense. Instead, it can trigger slave flashes with an optical impulse from the pop-up flash. Normally this works very well, unless you have a bunch of other photographers around with their flashes! Not a frequent occurrence for me.

I'm confused now, I thought he was talking about a 6D. The 6D doesn't have a built in flash but the 60D does.

You are correct, I confused the two. The 6D does not have a flash.

I too just recently went from the 5D to the 6D. I had no complaint about the 5d and was not sure if I needed the updated technology of the 6d. But after using the 6d for about a week I sold the 5d. To me just the auto and high ISO capability, better LCD screen, and AF lens micro adjustment were enough to keep the 6d.

The 6D arguably has better image quality than any other Canon camera.

And no, I'm not joking.

it's just arguable
