Have a contract on my house, set to close in late March. I'll have some time to take a trip within the US. after closing. Perfect timing to see the sandhill cranes in Nebraska, but that's an awefully long drive from the east coast. Could be worth it if there were other great photography oppotunities along the way. Regardless of NE, if you had a week in late March, where would you travel for excellent wildlife photography?

I spend a week or so every year traveling around Florida that time of the year and I'm never disappointed and with this weather I'm looking forward to it even more this year. There are so many great places in Florida it's tough trying to narrow down the spots for a just a week.

I would like to return to Bosque del Apache in New Mexico but by the end of the third week in March the Sand Hills may be gone or scattering towards NE. So far this has been the richest area of bird photography I've been to, the scenery is fantastic in the area and wildlife abundant. A little further down the road and you could enjoy some warm weather too :-).It would be a long drive for you, with some planning though you could hit some Eagle hot spots along the Miss river and waterfowl areas too. Have some great waterfowl areas in Mo that time of year. Weather can be an issue in March so going South first to interstate 40, then West would make for a more pleasant and safe travel.

Actually, at the moment, I do have more than a week. Waiting to hear about a job on the west coast. Don't know how long it might be.

Charleston, SC is always a good choice. Plenty of wildlife for photography, plenty of history, and amazing food! It is a bit of a drive for you (about 8 hours), but you could do it in a day instead of the 2-3 that it would take you to drive to Nebraska.
