Hope this will help me and possibly someone else that's just getting into the lighting part like we are. And hope I am making sense as well :)

Here's what we need, we need RF (radio frequency) or something that will allow us to trigger multiple flashes that is NOT in line of sight. Some houses we do are large, and we need to light up, lets say a bedroom, hallway etc. But the flash will be completely out of sight and IR will just not work, or the lights that are triggered by other flashes. Also, we don't always do RE photography. I've read where another photographers (like at an event etc.) flash can trigger your flash and we don't want that.

Now I'm not taking the easy way out (Err kinda maybe!!), so please don't say that or take it like that, not sure if it happens on this site but others it does. The wife and I have been reading and reading. And we've done so much goggling, that some answers that we've read we cannot find them for the lives of us now! And the technology is not compatible with others etc. We don't want to run into any of that.

Again, please keep in mind that we just don't do RE photography. We want something very bright when needed but want to be able to turn it down if needed. We figured we want the max of 4-5 flashes. The line of sigh or flash triggered (slaves I believe it was?) will not always work for us.

We were going to get the kit from B&H with the Canon 600 EX-RTs and the transmitter with the umbrella stands etc for $1,300 but I've read you do not have to spend that much to achieve what we need to.

Can someone please help us out on this? I read where these "Yongnuo YN560-III Speedlite" will be good for us, and of course since we've been all over the webs I cannot find where I read that to get the rest of the info and tried to find it and cannot for the life of me.

I just do not want to make a wrong purchase of a grand + than find out we need to spend XXX amount more. I just want to make sure we get what we need the 1st time and if we can save some money, than that would be awesome because we need to also get a Glidecam and some video LED lights, microphones as well. And trying to see if I can work that into our current budget.

We shoot with a Canon 70D if that will help, if there's other info I left out please ask....

Thanks so much everyone.

You might get more response in the section "Flash and studio lighting". :)
You can trigger multiple flashes with radio triggers, like the Yongnuo 622. The only thing you got to check out is the range: 50 - 100 meters outdoors they claim but I haven't tested that out (got four of those triggers). They do ETTL so really easy to use but can manual control flashes easily as well.
They are not expensive - depends on where you buy them.

;) I know about that section, but was wanting to stick in this section since the RE part is where we will not be able to have line of sight and wanted to hear what other RE photographers were using. I'm sure they will be able to help me over there, but felt better asking in this section since its dedicated to this type of thing.

The only place we really know about is B&H, I've seen some others but I never ordered from them.

OK, so lets say I want to buy 4 of those flashes in my previous post above, I would need 5 of those triggers you posted correct? And that would be it with the additions of a lot of rechargeable batteries! Well they are sold in pairs, so I would get 6 which will yield one for backup just incase one takes a nose dive.

Thanks sir, appreciate you. :)

So I just picked up another round of the Yonguo flashes myself (I have a slew of them); however, I went with a "lower" model because I don't need eTTL as much. But it sounds like what you are after these would work perfectly fine as far as range and cost. The model I recommend is the YN-560 IV - http://www.bhphotovideo.com …_yn560_iv_speedlite.html/ (external link). You can get them at B&H for $70usd. They have built in 2.4ghz radios that are fantastic range and do well in areas where they need to channel switch. If you mix them with the YN-560 TX (radio transmitter) http://www.bhphotovideo.com …ual_flash_controller.html (external link) you can fully control them remotely as well as trigger. They can run up to 6 groups so you can individually control groups of the flashes all from the remote transmitter.

As far as the Yonguo 622 - it's a great system as well. Geared more for remote triggering of existing flashes. One thing to keep in mind is that it would require you to buy a transmitter for your camera as well as receiver for every flash you wish to connect. In comparison to it's cousin which builds the receivers into the speedlights directly. For a thorough review/comparison between the two options I would recommend reading this article http://flashhavoc.com …622c-compatibility-added/ (external link)

I have four Yungnuo YN-622C and one YN622C-TX. (Normally use them indoors at a range of 5 - 7M) I just checked them out in my garden and the range is a bit disappointing: max 15 m. Any further and they become unreliable. The specs claim 100M but I haven't been able to reach that by far.
You can buy them on eBay, straight from China.

That is really unfortunate to hear. I don't have personal experience with the 622's but with the 560's I have not hit limits indoors yet. Out doors I've been in environment similar to a football pitch and did have some misfires at the full length (80-100m) but I feel anything stretches at that point, since my pocketwizards were also failing at that length.

As a bit of follow up specifically to using the YN560 with architecture I came across this blog post this morning http://photographyforrealestate.net …h-power-from-your-camera/ (external link)

Yonguno is the best choice for flash that is reasonably priced. The 560III is powerful, completely manual and adjustable from full to tiny fractions. It also has integrated optical and radio slave receivers. They are about $70 each. If you get their radio transmitter as well, you will have all you need.

I use Phottix Strato II radio remotes. They are a bit better than the Yongnuo but the main reason is that I bought them first and my set of flashes is not all Yongnuo.

Take a good look at the Yongnuo. I'm buying more soon. They've been very good for me.

I repeated the range experiment with new batteries in both the transmitter and receiver and the range increased to about 25 M (open air and line of sight) but any further becomes unreliable. Would like to hear how others go with this....

you're right, this is the photosharing area.

nonetheless, vk2 the issue you are having is with the TX portion of the set up. If you take that out of the equation and only use the regular 622 you will see a massive improvement in the distance and ability to go through walls. I often use the YN622 and YN603II in combination and have never had an issue with firing from great distances even through walls. The longest that comes to mind was probably 40+ meters away and through a wall, I took probably 20 shots and they fired every time.

The issue is actually pretty well documented here and on www.flashhavoc.com (external link) , supposedly they are working on another version of the TX product.

As for the original question, I would recommend either the 622 or 603II depending on whether you want/have/plan to have remote control of your flashes. The 603II also acts as a remote trigger for your camera which can be a bonus in tight spaces. I've actually had my Tokina set up so close to the corner of a room that i could not get out of the frame.

Thanks again everyone.

We finally made a purchase. We wanted the TTL and manual options, so we went with....

1- YN-E3-RT

A few YN-600EX-RT's

A bunch of rechargeable batteries and an 8 bank quick charger, wish I would have ordered two but will order another in the future.

Hopefully we made the correct choice, time will tell..

Thanks to all that has helped.
