May 17, 2015 07:12 | #8 Permanent banHMM? Smaller sensor than a G1X II in a bigger package. I don't see this ever making it to production. It was dead when this thread was started. WARNING: I often dispense advice in fields I know little about!

mcoren Beware the title fairies! More info Post edited over 8 years ago by mcoren. | Jun 19, 2015 15:41 | #10 I don't get the "1.0-inch sensor" specification. If that were the diagonal measurement, it would be almost as large as an APS-C. But Canon's specs on the lens say its actual focal length range is 8.8-220 mm, making the crop factor (relative to a 35mm frame) about 2.7, so the sensor must only be about 60% the size of APS-C. The aspect ratio of the sensor is 3:2, but no matter how I do the math I can't come up with any combination of L+W that adds up to anywhere near 1 inch/25.4 mm. The best I can figure out from that crop factor and aspect ratio is about 8.8 x 13.2 mm. Maybe if you add the length and the width. like shipping companies do, you get 22 mm which is sorta kinda close to an inch. Canon EOS R7, M5, 100 (film), and Sony α6400

Maybe if you add the length and the width. like shipping companies do, you get 22 mm which is sorta kinda close to an inch. The 1" sensor size refers to the video camera method of naming sensor sizes. It is actually 1/1' which measures about 12.8mm by 9.6mm and results in a crop factor of about 2.7x Sensor formats of digital cameras are mostly expressed in the non-standardized "inch" system as approximately 1.5 times the length of the diagonal of the sensor. This "optical format" measure goes back to the way image sizes of video cameras used until the late 1980s were expressed, referring to the outside diameter of the glass envelope of the video camera tube. David Pogue of The New York Times states that "the actual sensor size is much smaller than what the camera companies publish – about one-third smaller." For example, a camera advertising a 1/2.7" sensor does not have a sensor with a diagonal of 0.37"; instead, the diagonal is closer to 0.26".[26][27][28] Instead of "formats", these sensor sizes are often called types, as in "1/2-inch-type CCD." mcoren Beware the title fairies! More info | Mike, thanks for explaining that. Talk about specmanship! That's consistent with my guesstimates. Here's another explanation I found: Canon EOS R7, M5, 100 (film), and Sony α6400
