It's no longer a rumor. The G3X is for real (1-inch sensor and 25x zoom)

Does anyone know if you can zoom by twisting or is it like a typical point and shoot using the mechanical thingie?

It has a "mechanical thingy" (A toggle that wraps around the shutter button like on most power zooms) that controls the power zoom,

...BUT there is also a ring on the lens that is mentioned to be "programmable"

My assumption (I could be wrong) is you have the option of setting it to zoom or focus.

Raw is not compatible LR.

OMG!

At 600mm, the little G3X is out-resolving an A7II with a Tamron 150-600mm mounted!

ISO 3200 looks GOOD, ISO 6400 perfectly useable!

^agreed !!!! What a little performer !!! If only it had an EVF it would de-king the RX10/FZ1000 for pic shooters.
Yes I know about the ext. pop on EVF, got one for my G1X mk ii, very nice but so clunky feeling to us spoiled
'internal' EVF addicts.

We wanted to upgrade from our SX200is, which was starting to show it's limitations now my wife was starting to try different things. ISO performance was the biggest handicap. But she did love the long zoom.
After having a look at the G1 X Mk2, G7 X, Sony RX10 and Panasonic FZ1000, we walked out of the shop with a G3 X. I just wish they sold a kit with the EVF bundled - I've seen an unboxing video on YouTube with this kit but it's unheard of over here so far (Canada).

It's really the wife's new camera but I think I'm going to be quite happy to take it out when the SLR is going to be too big and bulky.

With the sensor how big is the G3x compared to an APS-C? I'm assuming the sensor is larger than the G15.

The 1" sensor size refers to the video camera method of naming sensor sizes. It is actually 1/1' which measures about 12.8mm by 9.6mm and results in a crop factor of about 2.7x

looks promising. I might pick this one up to replace my RX100II, which I don't really like all that much, it's almost too small for my hands and change settings without noticing. Also don't like the stupid 1/30 sec default it always tries to impose.

A zoom going to 600 is fun, I have the Tammy, but would never pack it for a trip to Europe. Maybe this will be under the xmas tree for me?
