You have the following:
$900 cash
5D MK II
24-105 L
24 f1.4 II
100L
What would you sell/ trade/ buy to get the best system that would cover general photography? This is all you have to work with.

Get a crop body. Add 1.6 reach to all your lenses.

Not sure why you would make any change. What you have now is perfect for general photography. Maybe the only thing missing is a decent flash.

You have a very respectable bag of gear right now. The only thing that I would add is a 70-200. Then save up for a flash head & a Gary Fong light defuser.

Considering that the 70-200mm USM IS f/4 L is only ~$600 more, I'd sell nothing and save up to buy it. The 100L is one heck of a lens for products and portraiture.

If it were me, I'd find a nice used 100-400L version 1 to add a little reach, and a little more reach easily fits into the category of general photography. Or save up a couple more hundred and get the Tamron 150-600.

But realistically, based on your own body of photographic work, where do you find yourself lacking? Could be a tilt/shift lens, or something bugeyed-wide to play with, or something macro oriented maybe. Where do you want to explore more, photographically speaking, therein lays your answer. It is your eye in the view finder after all.

I already have a flash and I sold my 70-200 f4 IS, that's where the $900 came from. My thoughts have been along the lines of selling the 24 L and getting either a 70-200 f2.8 II or 70-300 L or maybe 100-400 II. Or maybe selling or trading the 5d MK II and the 24L for a 5D MK III and getting a 70-300 L.

If I can ever afford a 24L II, I'd never consider letting it go. Waiting to see how Sigma's 24mm f/1.4 Art reviews.

OP, I'd sell the 24-105 5DII. That nets you a 6D and some cash for a 50 1.4 or 100 2.

surprised to see you sold the 70-200 and are looking for another long lens.

my first thought was to sell the 24-105 and get a 24-70II

if you're not too interested in the short end of things maybe sell the 25-105 for a sigma 35 or 50 art and another long prime like the 200 2.8 L

sounds like you have a different definition of "general" photography than most.

I started out selling the 70-200 f4 to get the 70-300 for the longer reach because nearly everyone is in agreement the 70-300 is as sharp. The 24-105 is always on my camera and it's very sharp and has IS. I don't do handheld low light because of a little shake, no IS and probably poor technique so I am getting soft images. I know I could use a tripod, but I don't like lugging it around. Lately I have been thinking about maybe selling the 5D MK II and the 24 L and buying a used 5D MK III. Another thought was to keep the 5D MK II, sell the 24 L and buy the 100-400 II and get a used 200 f2.8 to compliment it. I don't think any of my combinations will be the wrong one even if I just add the 70-300 L. I should also mention I have a 50D that could be used and get even a longer reach, especially with the 100-400.
So here are some combos that might work well.
5D MK II, 100L, 24-105, 24L, 70-300 L.
5D MK II, 100L, 24-105, 100-400 II, 200 f2.8
5D MK III, 100L, 24-105, 70-300L
What do you think?

I like my 24-105 enough to keep it but if I were rearranging it would be the first to go. I didn't feel this way until I bought my Sigma 35 A. It lives in my camera unless my 85 is on there(usually in the studio). So, I'm kinda having a hard time getting past you not selling the 24-105. :D

If you're going long, go long and get the 100-400

Update.
I sold the 24L tonight so now I have:
$1875 cash
5D MK II
24-105
100L
Here's my thought
5D MK III, 70-300L, 24-105, 100L
5D MK II, 70-300L,24-105, 100L, plus about $900 cash left over or maybe the Zeiss ZE 35 f2 I have lusted for.
5D MK II, 70-200 f2.8 II, 24-105, 100L
5D MK II, 100-400 II L, 24-105, 100L
I am throwing the 5D MK III in there for the accurate autofocus and would sell the MK II
All above will be bought used.

Which of the above combos would give me the most bang?
