First seen sizing up it's "prey".....

....then the approach....

....and the strike!

Here's a few more approaches, unfortunately from the shady side of "the prey".

Part of me figured that if these guys were so difficult to capture sitting still I'd just catch them on the wing. I hope my attempt at humor at least brought a smile to your face and you'll be silly right along with me and leave behind some comments. Thanks for checking these out and bearing with me :-)

Haha, Steve . . . he looks vicious :-)
Here's a new one for me. I've never seen or heard of one before.
I love # 1. Looks like a cross between a nuthatch and a titmouse.

Thank you Stacy! I'll have to give credit to the Pines in the background on some.

Interesting Jeff and thanks for weighing in. Maybe you have more natural foods available there than we do here.

I think I would add twitchy to your fast description Geoff, but you nailed it too. Thanks for the comment.

LOL Barry, simply a monster they are! They are so small they can easily perch at any angle on anything....but not for long. Thanks for the humorous comment and I hope you'll get a visit one day.

Indeed they are Geoff. Probably rivaled only by the Brown-headed Nuthatch as the smallest I have around in the winter.

I would have to qualify your comment about "in flight" to more like "in hover" Rog. It's a lot like shooting hummers which BTW are only 2 months away. :-
Thanks as always my friend.

I will completely agree with twitchy to describe them.

This is the first year I have seen one. Funny thing is I saw one in the park walking my dogs, no camera of course. I get home, it started snowing and this tiny bouncing little bird was outside...the kinglet had "followed" me home. Since then its been at the feeder on super cold days.

Well the title got me to click, and I certainly was entertained! Nicely done Steve. I always leave the suet in the tray that it came in, when I put it into the basket. It stays together nicely, and the birds are forced to land on the side that I want them on!

I'd bet they've been around before Geoff, but they can certainly slip in and out of sight very quickly. Here's hoping you see them more and more!

Haha Sandy, that is a truly neat approach....and in a variety of ways, but you also probably know that I normally lean away from images with feeders where possible. Nothing wrong with it, just personal preference. Glad I could entertain and thanks always for your lovely comments.
