After a trip to the GC and Sedona our next big trip (just started talking about it 3 days ago) will be to southern Utah. After shooting the GC last week I realized just how important the time of year is. Any recommendations?

Southern Utah...you are in for a treat! So many great places to see. My wife and I typically visit in the fall, usually between mid-September to late October. Weather is generally excellent, perfect for hiking. Summer is hot, so we avoid that time of year.

Have you started thinking about the specific places that you want to visit? It is a big area with a lot of options. Here's a link to a trip planning primer from Trip Advisor that you might find useful:

April/May can be nice as well since there is still snow up in the mountains.

We have enjoyed every minute we were in southern Utah in September through early November!

It sounds like late September to mid October might be the right time to visit. Now I just need to talk work into giving me another week of vacation so I dont use my entire 2 weeks in one shot.

My wife and I like from mid September thru the second week in November as it is the beginning of the school year and the crowds are much smaller.

Like everyone says, fall is good, but if you get out there in May, that's when the cactus flowers are out, so that's a good time if you are into that sort of thing. This is Valley of the Gods on 5/29/2010. Although thinking about it, this has been a dry year for Utah, so could be a wildflower flop if they don't start getting some moisture.
