Okay, I'm not seeing it, but I know that you can set some function that will allow you to use the AF of the 580ex, but not fire the flash. Can someone tell me how to set it?

I thought it was a custom function but I can't find it anywhere in the manual.

I don't have a 580EX but I seem to remember reading about putting it in master w/no flash?

Anytime............

I'm guessing you have some studio lights going and using the speedlight as a trigger,

or somethin' like that?

Wierd. According to my 580EX manual, Custom Function 5 is Slave Unit Auto Power Off, and Custom Function 7 is Flash Recycling Method when an external power source is attached.

It's in the 20D custom functions...............

Dang, two different sets of custom functions to deal with.

Reset both and start fresh if we can't "fix" it.

Easier to start from sq 1 then going through each function to see what we did.

Can you tell?

Been there done that...............LOL

Ahh ok. I looked in my XT menu and see I have a CF-5 for the assis beam but nothing for turning the flash firing off.

I'd say so. I scrolled through all the CF options and none would turn the flash off altogether.

Still trying to fig out the 1/250 sync vs the highspeed sync on the speedlight.

I think U get 1/200 (AV mode) on your XT

Yeah we have 1/200th. I guess our little babycams don't deserve the niceities of the big boys.
