Well I foolishly wiped the focusing screen and now it seems to have a nasty annoying scratch! Has anyone ever tried to replace the focusing screen on their 70d?

<live and learn I guess..>

What's the focusing screen? do you mean the lcd or viewfinder? I'm assuming the former.

I wanted to get one for my 6D as I wanted to use the 100-400 with a teleconverter, this combination cannot do AF, and I do not mind manual focus. I watched a few of videos on Youtube, and they say that the viewfinder is going to be darker, for apertures smaller that f 5.6 - much darker. Has anybody here had any experience?

Really all I am trying to do, is replace my now damaged focusing screen with a new one (Canon cost estimate = $300)

I replaced my focusing screen on my 60D because it was "user replaceable". It came with a little tool that you used to uninstall one and reinstall the new one. In my case, the new one had a grid. Grids are now electronic if you want one in the view finder.

I'm pretty sure you have to unscrew some screws now, instead of just releasing a catch kind of thing, so it will be more difficult but if you are technically competent, it shouldn't be that big of a deal.

Here's the 60D tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYGjEnm8PSc (external link)

That will at least get your familiar with the process. Like I said, I think you'll have to unscrew some things now instead of just pulling on a few things. If you have precision screw drivers, this should be fairly simple.

I do have to say... I'm guessing. Let us know what you find out as you look into it yourself.
