I'm using the Fuji X-E2 with the kitlens FX 18-55mm since about three weeks ... it is a gorgeous alternative to my canon-gear ...

I'm a bit confused though, why not use the lens at a wider aperture? Seems to me that F/4 would have given enough DOF to keep your subjects in focus, then again, sometimes depth is harder to read in a photo than it is in person.
